Title: Resubmitting ... allowed? worth while?
Post by: Anyka on February 16, 2014, 02:12
Hi, I usually do not resubmit anything, except on SS with corrected flaws + a notice to the reviewer, but sometimes I get cranky when I see how many well-selling files there are in the "refused" folder of the other agencies.

Does any of you have experience in resubmitting to FT/DST/123rf/GLO/DP/CAN ... ?  Do they allow it, and if yes, should we draw their attention to the fact that it's a second time, or to the first refusal-reason?

For SS I know that resubmitting is only allowed if you "announce" it, and you're supposed to correct the file first, not just resubmit it, but what about the others?  Has any one ever had a problem with it ?

same here, very low earnings to justify resubmitting to other agencies (just a file here and there if I see it selling well in other agencies), if I had nice earnings at other agencies I would for sure resubmit, anyway most files approved at SS are also approved at other, besides DT/FT with their special policies/looking for other content bla bla bla ;D

regarding being allowed I think most won't even notice, of course changing a little the file is more safe

I think I have never bothered to resubmit anything to others than shutter.
And even there  I do not resubmit often.
They know, and I know, what images are going to sell.
And if we disagree, They know best.

Only occasionally I try and adopt a forget it and move on philosophy - rejections seem to cause more angst than anything else in MS world - make sure you make the agency aware to avoid any trouble

I've had weird rejections for copyright/trademarks at SS on antiquarian books dating from early 19th and mid-18th centuries. Resubmitted with removed titles but it made no difference. The only other markings were the binder's tooling in the leather binding for which, no doubt, a generic metal stamp tool of the day was used. SS did accept (first time) another of the series with very selective focus (titles invisible but binder's tooling visible and sharp). I hate illogicality! All accepted at FT, complete with titles and they're all good sellers there.

So, now I don't argue with or resubmit to anyone. Don't want 'em...too bad....your loss maybe another's gain...move on.

I tend to just accept the rejection and move on unless the rejection reason is technical and something I can easily fix (even if I disagree with the reason).  Poor White Balance on a image that I had shot in RAW, would be one such example.   I will leave a note for the reviewer indicating I have reprocessed the original RAW file and specifically corrected the issue that resulted in the rejection.

Another situation that happened just a few days ago when an agency rejected some photos for trademark infringement.  All other agencies accepted the images so I conducted my own research on the matter and found the rejecting reviewer to be in error in this case.  I resubmitted with a polite note regarding my findings, and asked that they reconsider their position.  They did, and the images were accepted.   Fortunately this type of rejection has been the exception, but people do make mistakes from time to time.

As a business, I think I would be remiss not to resubmit in these instances because I am walking away from potential income at no fault of the image.  At the same time however, continuing to try to push through images where the rejection reason is valid would be a bad business strategy - ultimately wasting my time, the reviewer's time, and clogging up the queue with images that have a higher chance of end customer dissatisfaction and thereby weakening my portfolio if they ever did get accepted.  The learning curve (that I am still working on) is knowing the difference.

I resubmit all the time but only usually with a future batch.  I do not carve out time separately other than keep a record of my rejects.  When I upload a batch, say, next month, (depending on the kind of rejection, though) I will throw in the rejects.  I will say that I have had notes from DT telling me NOT TO resubmit these again or else.  Then I stop. SS is a careful resubmit, usually with a note.  IS you don't need to worry about anymore.  123 all the time and nearly all the time they get accepted, and VERY RARELY CanStockPhoto rejects and I do resubmit and it always gets accepted.  DP never had a rejection, but I may be rejecting them soon anyway.

So 123rf is OK, Dreamstime does not like it AND notices when we do resubmit, and Shutterstock is OK as long as we add a note.

Any one know about Fotolia's attitude towards resubmitting?  My acceptance there is very high, but they sometimes reject "all nature shots" (probably because of some temporary reviewers' instructions).  I have a series of landscapes they rejected, while the 1 they DID accept is now my bestseller (at Fotolia)  ;D

When I first started with FT a few years ago for a while there they seemed to reject almost all nature-ish shots.  Then it changed and some started to get in and I thought it might be a change of reviewers or policy, so I resubmitted some of the previous rejects and they were accepted.  I intended to go back and resubmit a bunch more rejects but never found the time to bother, and now it's just too much trouble.  For images that sell well elsewhere it might be worth a shot.  The only way to know for sure is to try it.  I would just include 3 or 4 rejects in your next batch and see what happens.  If they get in, great, if they scold you for it, just apologize and don't do it again.  If they get rejected again, then at least you tried.  Whichever way you get your answer.  Good luck!

Ft doesn't care, but they are consistent in rejecting the same images. They have a record of rejects that you cannot delete.  if you go into your files, there is a icon that says "show deleted files" or something like that.  if you click on that it will show you all the rejections and there's no way to get rid of it. So wile I resubmit to them over and over rejected files, most never make it in.

90% of the time I just eat the rejection and don't bother resubmitting...

Hey, I never noticed I could not delete the rejected Fotolia files!
I'll submit a few rejected landscapes this evening, with a little note.  I'll have to submit manually, as I can't seem to find the "note to reviewer" when I use the indexing method ...

I store rejections from SS in albums named according to rejection reasons. Occasionally I review the albums to see if there are some easy fixes... like denoising or downsizing images rejected due to noise or focus. After I bought denoising software, I ran all my "noise" rejections  through it and voila... all 80 but one were accepted :)

I used to store rejections from DT and FT, but not any more, not worth it.

I'll resubmit when I don't agree with a rejection, and I'll usually add a justification and most of the time they accept. I only bother resubmitting to IS and SS for the most part
