I've seen threads where multiple model shoots were mentioned as no longer being financially viable. This seems likely, but I see they are amongst the best selling on a few agencies.

I worked out I need to sell about 200 images just to break even on a shoot with one model (Using SS 0.25 per image as an average), so a "five people around table" type shoot would require about 1,000 sales from one shoot.

How many of you still do shoots with multiple models and do your returns justify it? (TFP aside).

Whilst 1000 images at $0.25 may sound ridiculous you need to consider that you could produce 100 images or more from the shoot, selling across ten agencies and now you are only looking at each images selling once on each agency. Then factor in credit purchases and ELs where you receive more than $0.25 and the whole seems a lot more achievable.

Maybe it is not viable when you are a production house and your overheads are huge, but for an individual photographer hiring studio space and a few models and props it should be more profitable.

$250 from 1,000 sales would not be at all worth my time for a shoot like that, which is why I don't put those on the micros any longer.  Cost for models for me for something like that would be around $4-500 to start.

I don't think you can give your models a fair deal and still make a profit in microstock these days!

Until a year ago it was still possible. Now I think Microstock is mostly dead for advanced productions. Most of my shoots with values higher than 500$ in cost nowadays go to other channels and do well there.

Say Thanks to SS. They failed to offer a perspective for high value productions.
