For almost two years now I have been contributing to iStock.  I signed up to exclusivity, but I am finding that after a promising start with week on week growth my sales fell off the edge of a cliff and have been struggling.  Fair enough.  My portfolio is largely beaches and travel based, and I generally dont take photos with people in them.  That obviously isn't a fit with iStock - and without people, probably not with stock generally.  However, before I stop contributing altogether, I thought I might give it a try elsewhere.  Can anyone recommend which of the other sites a portfolio like mine might fair better?  Here's a link to my portfolio....

Hi allyclark, I only looked at a couple of pages of your port, and I must say you have some very nice photos on your port, I would try uploading them to DT they're a good traffic site with fair commissions, they do pretty good for me.

I hope this helps.

Best regards.

yes, make that two.  just stay away from Stockxpert for now . there's been a spanner in the works at StockXpert for quite a bit, and getting scarrier ;)

ok allyclark, jokes aside:
i am a contrarian in everything i do from dealing with the stock market (ie the real stock that matters) . what i mean is, i go where the flock hates. perharps it's because my port is more of a niche, perharps it's where the most difficult places attract the least flood of uploaders. the more picky the better the quality control, etc ...whichever the reason, i find lately applying this mentality to micro stock , it has works very well for me.

i don't have a favourite , other than the ones that is selling well for me at the moment. i used to praise (a) certain site (s), but in your own experience, you know that is also not a good thing to do.  but that's not to say i am not looking to be exclusive, i am, as being available to too much can be counterproductive.
ie. they see your image here at a higher price, and go to the other site to get it at subscription rate.

just my tupenny's worth of insight. cheers!

Travel?

If you have some time to tweak your images for Alamy you could do that.

Also, you may find nice places for your images with pricing them above $30 /dl...
I'd sugest you to check these:

Veer (not Veer marketplace)
Alamy
Photographersdirect.com
Zymmetrical.com
Featurepics.com (future GOLD collection)

It is just because travel images are not microstock images... They need other market and other buyers than regular microstock buyers.

Good Luck!

I agree... Now they made just 4 images preview on newest images there... It's bad decision in buyers eyes... You now must click to see every next 4 images...

I am sure they will improve that and other functionality after realising that outlook of site is not primary in selling stock images ;-)

Still you can set your own prices there and they can sell that images to mostly German and European market...

Featurepics for now sells well in the USA...

So, you with that two covering most significant market groups.
Sure... There are other agencies with higher pricing caps than micros too ;-)

@Perseus:
Sorry, English isn't my native language, so I am not sure if I understand what you are trying to say? What does spanner mean? My usual translation would be that of a tool for bolts, but that doesn't seem to fit...  :-\

Oh, and at @allyclark:

maybe you should wait to get the Silver-Status at istockphoto after about 300 more DLs and see, if that affect sales...

Just do what everybody else does in the microstock market( beside you exclusives). Upload your pictures to all of Big 6 that you have listed on the right side here under Microstock Poll Results and that is it.
Perseus, Veer has much, much higher standards than the rest of agencies you listed. I do not think it is a good idea to  to apply there with AllyClarck portfolio.

I can tell you from personal experience that being Silver in itself will not affect sales. I've been silver for over a year, and my current downloads are down to what they were the month after I became Bronze.
Of course, in the intervening time, you may submit a file which flies ...

That's exactly it. If you threw a spanner into an engine, the engine would stop working.

Thanks for the advice folks.  Very useful indeed.  Seems Alamy might be worth a try.
