Title: Sales up, sales down, sales up, sales down
Post by: Josephine on December 22, 2016, 12:30
Does is make sense to tell everybody his present sales figures?
“I am up 25 percent...”
“I am down 50 percent....”
“I am happy...”
“I am pissed off...”

What shall I do with this information? Any idea?

Mostly ignore it...some start talking about the WME or BME no later than the 4th of the month and sometimes sooner.  If they enjoy it, fine, doesn't hurt anybody.  But certainly don't adjust your business model or expectations.   8)

It's some kind of weird group therapy I guess :) other people around would probably get bored very soon when you compare January'09 and May'14 partner program sales or report fluctuation of acceptace ratio on Dissolve.

I think when people post sales stats they are trying to figure out if there is a shift in the industry, or in sales overall amongst other contributors and so they ask how are sales trying to figure out why they have a sudden shift up or down. Is it just them or is it everyone who is experiencing what they are.

I think this is natural when the stock industry is so secretive in how the entire operation is carried out. Its a constant battle to figure out where you stand and why in this industry.

it would make sense, if I knew everyone´s portfolio, otherwise it´s like comparing the incomparable. It´s like comparing meat with vegetables.

I find it interesting when it is about a specific site and my own figures (for better or worse) show the opposite.

Highlights how much the industry can vary wildly person to person.

The only time personal sales have any importance, in my humble opinion, is at year's end. Collectively, if the majority of those who respond are up/down, there maybe a sliver of useful information readers/contributors can use. Otherwise, like others have stated, its nothing more than personal therapy.....

This is what happens when you set up a forum about your own job. People will complain about it!

I wish more sites would be like Fotolia and show  your relative position (not sure how accurate it is though ;-0)but generally we are completely in the dark on how well we are doing. I think thats why people are desperate for nuggets of information.

I doubt this position makes any sense actually. The top 1% of contributors can be major stock studios supplying 10% of Fotolia content :)

It can give you some information. If you have one sale, and your weekly status doesnt drop, it means, other people are doing bad too. If you have good number of sales and your weekly status drops, it means other are doing even better, etc...

Drop = from 3000 to 5000 for example.

It's an interesting info, but that's pretty much all there is to it.

I really use it no try and improve my own position I don't expect to get in the top 1%! Its just a rough guide as to whether what I'm doing is improving or I'm just remaining static (or worse).

Take with a grain of salt.

We are all mostly different. Different subjects, style, areas of interest. Some work much more, some are more hobby workers, some depend on the income to live. Some have 30 agencies some here just one or two. Also different ages and I know some of the older people have been through the eggbeater of employment for a long time, see it as get what they earn and work for. Others are new and fresh and have high expectations, including thinking the world revolves around them.

You are going to see happiness and joy along with disappointment and dissatisfaction. I'd say, don't use others opinions or experience to make your own life decisions about earnings or success. It's all individual and if there's one thing I'd say, you can't judge yourself based on anonymous posts on a public forum.

Look at the past MSG survey results and analysis. Might be interesting. I see much more success and reason to be positive then the day to day forum posts reflect.

Look at the second page for some result links.  http://www.microstockgroup.com/general-stock-discussion/5th-annual-independant-microstock-survey-now-live-for-the-2012-microstock-year/25/ (http://www.microstockgroup.com/general-stock-discussion/5th-annual-independant-microstock-survey-now-live-for-the-2012-microstock-year/25/)

Oh but if you think it's a man thing, don't pay attention or read, and don't look at how many of the successful and active people here are women.
