Title: Selling rasters with "Sample Text" all over them. Pissing of customers?
Post by: JoEr on September 19, 2012, 16:40
I've never understood how sites that offer vectors as rasters allow them to contain sample text. Let's say you buy a set of labels or buttons that has the text "Sample Text" written all over them. If you buy this image as a jpg it's useless (or at best, you can remove the text with a lot of extra work), but the buyer may think that the text will not be there on the file they'll download.

All of you who sell these images, have you recieved many complaints from buyers? What's your strategy? Do you upload versions without text on the sites that also sell raster versions?

Have the buyers stopped purchasing these illustrations?

Well if any contributor who puts text over let's say a gradient button as a JPG then he/she is brain dead.

As a customer it's very frustrating to deal with that.

I can see why GraphicRiver is popular amongst designers because many different useful file formats can be offered and most likely these text elements are on separate layers.

I never include any text, just because it looks crappy to write "Sample Text"

I am always amazed by the lack of imagination buyers exhibit, but it does seem that they are incapable of visualizing where they could place text on a vector background judging by how well the ones with cr*ppy sample text sell. It seems like a lot of the designers buying now really do want their a** wiped for them as they are incapable of making any sort of design decisions themselves.

Yes, you would have to be brain dead to also sell these as rasters, as it makes them pretty much useless.

Are you speaking on behalf of anyone? Because graphic designers DO NOT like creative decisions being made for them by either photographers or illustrators. You may be confusing them with the enormous segment of buyers that are do-it-yourselfers and like to do their own business cards, wedding invites et al without having to spend the money on hiring a designer.
