Title: Shooting Stock in South Africa
Post by: Deformat on February 24, 2009, 11:18
Hi group,

I'm planning a trip to South Africa this spring and i'm trying to figure out how to make the most of this trip. I'm shooting stock for about half of it, and driving around doing some photo favours at a few vineyards and communities. Anyone have any advice for shooting in this country? anything I should prepare for and any stock subjects I should cross off my list as being overshot?

I'm hoping to recover the initial outlay within 6-12months,
thanks in advance

D

I would ask microstockers that are in SA, e.g. Forgiss and Subman...

I suggest you visit Forgiss' home page http://www.shoots.co.za
There is also the young Hougaard Malan among the South African photographers doing extremely well in microstock with his landscapes, and if I'm not mistaken he is exclusive to iS at the moment: http://www.hougaardmalan.com

Well, I am a South African nature and wildlife photographer. You can look at my portfolio by following any of the links below. As you probable have noticed, South Africa is a large and diverse country, and it is possible to pursue any one of a large number of photographic subjects. South Africa is of course best known for its scenic beauty, national parks and diverse cultures.

What to photograph will all depends on where in South Africa you will be, how much time you have and what your photographic interests are. After 30 years of being a very active nature and wildlife photographer I still have some places on my wish list yet to visit in South Africa.

You are welcome to contact me for more specific advice if you can provide me with more information on what region of South Africa you will be visiting.

Yeah I was going trough his portfolio on SS all the time. It was much bigger than the one on IS.

No clue why he went exclusive, might be because he got banned on SS fourms after the contraversial raise.

PS: He's just 20 years old I think :D

Perhaps it will be worth your while looking at this tread on Outdoorphoto, a South African photographic website. This is a tread about stock photography. I see it has had 538 replies, so I didn't go though everything, but I'm sure there will be some tips.
