Has anyone checked in on this one?
It's been around since 2007 it seems and was previously known as Celtic Images
Unusually, it lists number of buyers - also photographers and number of views on images.

Just looked a little deeper into their background. Recently purchased by Gaelic Images. Will operate as Shutter Village offering RF and RM. Subsidized by the Irish government under a small business program. VERY INTERESTING.

Not sure what is interesting about this, other than it seems to be an obvious combination of Shutterstock's and Snapvillage's names. That it has been around for a few years and nobody has heard of it is not a good sign either.

Well on a quick browse through, I found this

being offered as RF. Makes me wonder how much these people know, ohow much their photographers know, about proper licensing and business practices.

being offered as RF. Makes me wonder how much these people know, ohow much their photographers know, about proper licensing and business practices.
This site is just a total embarrassment and a prime example of all that is wrong about the Irish Government not to mention their rip-off economy. Dreadful, dreadful photography, the majority of which, looks like it was captured on cell phones - and very cheap cell phones at that!

Ktools provides the underlying architecture and while there are not many providers in this space, this also happens to be the cheapest. Their category section is full of what amounts to a collection of snapshots from somebody's holiday albums.
Ahhhhhhhhhhh....I hate it.

Aside from the site being a joke, with less than 50 photos and having the same four flower photos under almost every category, they were founded in 2004, so according to the age rule, they might actually make it? ::)
Did anyone look at the views for images on Shutter Village? The only reason there are numbers under them is probably from people like us, going to see what's there. ;D
I could start my own stock site and in a week have more photos. They would stink big time, but it would be bigger.
Lets see, "MegaBigMicroStock" ?

Half the contributors on this forum could put together bigger sites than both combined just by using their own portfolios...
I wonder if the featured photographers are also the only photographers!

well, that's embarrassing. What I thought was interesting was the government subsidy. The images were a bit weak. :-[
Anyone with agency startup ideas should "maybe" consider a move to Ireland?

Don't laugh! Since in 2015 the whole world will be shooting stock for the last 10 customers left, I figured last night (during dreams time) that the only money one can make now is by starting a new RF microstock agency. And get rich by all those poor *insult removed* never reaching payout, or dying of old age before they do. Yes you read it right, a brand new one that will supply quality (Peter shut up!) for the most affordable prices.

Oh boy , I like the name already Snapstock. I know for sure they won't hire the reviewer of BigStock who rejects my images because "these are snapshots". Remind me to stockpile on those snapshots for this future company.
My goodness, how about that? Stockpile, another good name. ;D

Not a problem if it was sold for Editorial use, surely. Shuttervillage say they are promoting to newspapers and the like in their "about us" link. I have photos of products and logos etc being sold as RF (with BigStock and Picture Nation) for Editorial use. Don't think I'll be rushing into this one just yet though. Regards, David

Editorial perharps, but the requirements for BigStock , like Dreamstime, is newsworthiness;
not images to avoid the need for MR or PR. Don't you think?

Iriz, it's not the Irish Government. It's the lack of accountability of the bureaucrats who approved these subsidies. It happens here in Canada too. Lots of abuses from large corporations.
Then once they're done, they relocate and leave our cities high and dry. Or get another Government Aid to cover their losses in bankruptcy. Leaving what? The taxpayers holding the bag.
It's what caused this world recession . Misuse of authority and lack of accountability.

The comment posted here claiming that Shutter Village is “subsidized by the Irish government” is false. To avoid miscommunication or a misunderstanding allow me to put facts straight, Shutter Village is not subsidized by the Irish government.
On the www.shuttervillage.com website there is a reference to our involvement in a program with the local Enterprise Ireland office. For those of you who don’t know what this is; it is a support system that exists in every county in Ireland where EI (Enterprise Ireland) help new start-up business get off the ground. This help is in the form of advice and guidance and it is open to every type of business. Shuttervillage.com has NOT received any funding or subsidizes so I don’t believe it’s fair to give a start-up business any bad press over the way government have wasted taxpayers money.
In relation to comments that some images on the www.shuttervillage.com website are low quality this is because Shutter Village started out with a goal of helping amateur photographers get a start in the industry and initially we accept a certain number of low quality images in the hope that we could help amateur photographers improve their work. We are working through a process of phasing out any low quality images before we move into the Rights Managed industry.
Yes, we know the law in regards to proper licensing and business practices.
Iriz, your comments have been noted by several of our member photographers who are quiet offended. As I presumed you are a photographer you are aware of the pixel quality of a cheap mobile phone so please back up your comment by identifying the images on our website that would meet the pixel quality of a cheap mobile phone.
Holgs, up to present we have 73 photographers. Not all of the 73 contributed but I can assure you majority of them did.
To end this, please allow me to thank everyone for your feedback. We are new in this business so we appreciate all types of feedback so we can learn from our mistakes, improve our business and move forward.
