I received this survey email from Shutterstock (probably all contributors did) and I went through it. One of the questions was if SS would offer a personal web page feature would I like it. I bet I would. All in one place would be excellent. Is SS trying to be like a Photoshelter & microstock site combination?

I would like it too, as i don't plan to dedicate time to develop a wholly owned website.

But I havn't got the survey

No I would not. I already have my own on line personal port.
Besides I wish ss would fix their real problem. With people stealing images without the water marks. ::)

Promoting my images at 38c a throw? Doesn't appeal to me....!

No thanks.  Definitely not for price I would get paid per image!
I think they want to use us to drive our customers to them.  The only way I justify their low prices to myself is to say that they have the customers and I am not spending time/money on PR-- they are.

I received the survey as well. I have no idea what possible reason there could be to use SS to host your personal website when there are so many other good hosting options out there. I suppose if all you do is contribute to SS if might be an option.

I don't have any email about a survey - perhaps they just sent it out to a random sample of contributors?

I do think having a place with your portfolio available is a good thing, but I can't imagine depending on SS for that. For one thing, you couldn't link to your portfolio at other agencies (I'm guessing they wouldn't permit that). And when they decide to drop that feature, anywhere you've linked to it is now broken.

If SS is looking for a little free marketing help, they aren't paying us enough for me to do that :)

What I found interesting is they want to know who your clients are. Is that so they can poach them and send you assignments through 'Flashstock/ SS Connect. No way in hell I tell them who I've shot for.

Did they ever promised partnership?

Do you sell better on ANY other site?

Isnt it a partnership?
What do you think constitites a partnership in business?

Sounds like youre all lovey-dovey with SS there...

Well hey, somebody has to be happy too on this forum. Seem like the average tone is quite depressed.

It's pretty easy to run a portfolio site (if that is what we are talking about). Doesn't really seem any reason to have Shutterstock involved in that.

Yes. Less often but better rpd and that is the direction I want to go.
Once you are perceived as a cheap 'brand' there is no way back.

There was also a question about user blogs. Hopefully this will be just like DT, so we can read fascinating topics like:

I Learned to Turn My Camera on Yesterday
Milestones: I've sold my 23rd photo!!
You Can Use Light to Light Your Photos
etc

No way!!!!!  a micro-stock agency as your homepage. Could be totally derogative. The Getty promo or page dont even work so how could you expect a micro to work properly.
Rather use Photoshelter or something similar. Even a smaller specialized agency would be better.
