Hi All,

Just back for a quick visit to share something with all of you. I was just contacted by another photographer who told me he notice a guy copying my work on Istock. . I have been told that copying is the biggest form of flattery. Or as Picasso once said " Good artist copy, great artists steal ". Here are the links, you decide.

Hope this helps,
AVAVA

That's copying to me. But at the same time I try to fill the small holes, when I don't have any subjects like in rainy days, I could copy some others work. That picture must have been made on a rainy day :)

Example, many of you must had noticed PhotographerOlympus at Istock with all his butterflies and flowers. This is my own version of his work done lately on a rainy day

Yeah they are similiar and different also..I don't think it was meant to be a copy. I personally don't go online to see what is there and what isn't there when I have an idea for a photo. I take it...do the editing..keywording...then post it..

Yeah, I saw one where someone copied my cute receptionist with a headset photo, and my happy business men shaking hands one too.

Hi All,
Just back for a quick visit

Does it have to be quick?  Come on, stick around a while.  It's just been so darn peaceful here the last few months.

Not having seen your iStock portfolio aside from anything you might have posted here while "mentoring" and "helping", I can't comment on "copying".  However, I will admit...
1. We both have studios with walls.
2. It appears we both have a couch.
3. It also appears we turn the couch profile to the camera (me on this particular day, for some setups later on, but I digress)
4. While shooting a female on the phone, we put them in a typical pose (see footnote)...

So, perhaps the stars aligned, and this unbelievable, amazing series of coincidences led to something similar.  Or maybe we both just happen to have a wall, a couch turned profile and a girl on a phone.  Whew!

Of course, I always make sure to get a few with a flat horizon, as you told me once that tilted photos are "out".  So I guess, I do owe that similarity to you.

BTW, I have over 6500 files on iStock.  For you to find one single generic concept image in that pile that is similar to yours and raise a federal case just shows the chip on your shoulder.  You'll have to let me know if you find more in the future, since I don't keep an eye on your production line.

Cheers!

Footnote: Girls using a phone upside down is a bit short of revolutionary that one could claim copyright to the genre...

I could understand it if the two photos looked near identical but these don't.  I am sure that there are coincidences like this every day.  AVAVA, if he is copying you, lets see all the other similar photos.

My kids sometimes lay like that and text or listen to music. Are they copying as well?

I shot a cheering girl with headset once, and I found out that everybody before and after me is copying me  :P

The same thing happened to me the other day, I created a floral background and found out that practically every site had a copy of my image!

I saw many bald men on the street the other day... Are they copying me?  :-\

Avava, you are a good guy. Relax, he didn't copy your work. Yes I know, sometimes it looks like someone stole your idea, but in this business it's very often just a coincidence.

Loks like he just called in to cause a bit of trouble as he has deleted his membership by the looks of it.

Maybe Avava's post is meant to be tongue in cheek?   I actually thought the comparison was pretty funny!   ;D

No, he was dead serious. He's got an axe to grind against sjlocke, and for some mysterious reason he's chosen (again) to act on that publicly in this forum.

Although avava has a long history in the traditional stock industry and is looked upon with admiration and respect there, the same thing cannot be said of his reputation in the microstock world - especially here. He's joined and quit this forum four times (first as as Chumley, then AVAVA, avava again, and finally this time as avava), and this latest incident takes it over the top for me.

In the event that he returns to this thread, I'll just say this: You've got much to learn about maintaining an online presence, avava. If you continue this behavior it won't be long before you've sufficiently embarrassed yourself that those in the know won't want to be associated with you and most everyone will hesitate to take you seriously. If you want to be a big player in this marketplace you'd better smarten up!

Welcome to microstock sir.

"Copying" has a new meaning in microstock and people will "copy" you.  Who cares?

If what sharply is saying is true, I think thats bad.

Although these 'feuds' make for good entertainment, you should iron them out in private.  After a certain point, its just old.

How do you know this post came from the real avava? Anyone can register whatever username he wants?

Don't people remember the AVAVA New Years Eve rant?  I didn't read it all, there are better things to do than read someone having a go at other people but it was obvious that this person has some "issues".  I wish him well and hope he sorts himself out but I don't take his snipes seriously.
