Title: Sites vs IPTC data
Post by: madelaide on June 09, 2006, 20:51
Of the sites I take part, only IS and Gimmestock don't read IPTC data.  Do you have the same problem with these sites?  At IS, I was suggested to use EXIF, but I don't see a place in the EXIF section to add keywords (with Exifer at least).

Adelaide

I add information to the file using Exifer, then I upload from the website form (the Upload link on the left menu).

I edit all the iptc data with photoshop and i have no problems in Istock. Maybe you can try using the Image manager

I don't use Photoshop, that's one reason I use Exifer.  I'll email support, as even launchenauer, who develops Image Manager, haven't suggested me that this might be a solution!

I'm curious why my data works in almost every site but IS and Gimmestock...

I found that when I was uploading one file at a time to iStock it didn't read IPTC

However when I switched to imagemanager it read the IPTC data.

I use pixvue as you can write your keywords in a text file as a continuous string no spaces just commas and it will add them appropriately.

I have noticed that occassionally there are gliches in the IPTC reading on most sites so I have the text file as back up.

The only site I have trouble with is Canstock with keywords.  I'm using ACDsee Pro.  Does Canstock not read data or would it be problem on my end?  Thanks

Been uploading files to the usual suspects over the weekend with minor problems with reading IPTC data but i have the text file open so no biggie.

Can stock works fine with pixvue

Kiya have you tried any other programs it maybe an issue between ACDSee Pro and can stock?

Thanks Fintastique...no I haven't tried any other programs.  Canstock is the only one I have trouble with.  Sales are so slow there, hardly seems worth the trouble, especially for the amount of time it takes me to submit there.  I love working out of ACDsee, so maybe I'll just can - Canstock.  Can't imagine why CS can't pick up the data.

Actually I was going to add if its just one site and its CanStockPhoto you are probably better off sticking with software you are happy with just not submitting to them. I tried EXIFER and Photoshop before I gave pixvue a proper try I like the copy and pasting a string of keywords the other two forced you to add them individually.

A pity sales are so low at CanStockPhoto as their series wizard is very cool I just wish some of the other sites would be "inspired" by that and make their own version

I received a reply from iStock (below), but not from Gimmestock.  These are the only sites I have problems with.

Thanks for contacting us. Our system reads some, but not all, IPTC data. If you enter IPTC using Adobe Photoshop and other popular programs are system will read this data. Unfortunately Exifer is not supported. I will make a request to see if we can support this software.
