Anyone have experience with snapwire...Thanks, Scott

Funnily enough, I wrote a blog post about them yesterday. What did you want to know?

Steve thanks good article. I guess my questions are.
Is the site worth doing...ie sales vs time of doing site.
Are you required to sale images outright if buyer request exclusive rights.
Do they pay out in a timely manner.
Thanks, Scott

I've only had one sale a long time ago - a couple of years or so and I can't even remember what it was for! What I use the site for are these location based requirements. There have been many from Doordash for the local restaurants that I wrote about, plus there are ones for tech real estate company - WeWork, but none of those in my area. The payments for purchasing food have been pretty instant - ie as soon as I was approved to take those restaurants, I got the money via Paypal for the food. I only claimed my money for the fees associated with the shoots themselves at the start of this month and I'm still waiting for that. So I can't really confirm that they pay as promised yet.
The Doordash ones ones are image buyouts, but they only take the 3 that they are looking for. If you have taken more shots from different angles, you can obviously sell those on stock if you want.

Where in the shoot description do they say how many images they want and of how many items? I don't actually see any details. Do you have to tip the driver and that comes out of the $30?

For all of mine I had to take three meals. Not all entrees - you could have a soup, salad and entree. I tended to buy one salad and two entrees because I always looked for something that was easy to plate and towards the end, I had my table top set up with the lights and the camera on a tripod over the table and would take the three shots in maybe 10 minutes. Then we would eat half the food and freeze the rest for a second meal later. That meant I spent more than my allotted allowance, but we got two good meals for two people out of it. I found that the prices are higher on the doordash app than direct from the restaurant, so I tended to visit the restaurant myself instead of having them delivered. That gave me a feel for whether we would ever go back and eat there! Some definitely not!! So you could just about get away with spending the $30 and no more, but it would be hard, to be honest!
It is not a great way to make money and I'm sure is contributing to the downgrade of earnings of proper food photographers (look at one of the comments to this blog post" https://www.backyardsilver.com/2019/10/nice-little-side-earner-with-snapwire/ (https://www.backyardsilver.com/2019/10/nice-little-side-earner-with-snapwire/)
But there is little creativity in what they want - they define how it is supposed to look and I set up my studio set to replicate that time after time. So I felt comfortable with the process.

Sean - you are right - it is no longer as clear as it was about how many dishes/shots are required. It is sort of implied in one of the FAQ, where it says if the restaurant is particularly expensive you might shoot 2 shots with agreement. But I'm going to confirm with the program manager when they confirm the restaurants they want me to shoot.

Thx. I’ve been to the two in my area already, so I know what the food is like.
