Title: Snow Storm Slowdown?
Post by: WarrenPrice on February 10, 2010, 16:51
Just read an interesting post at Shutterstock, speculating that the East Coast Snow Storm is affecting Microstock Sales.  Why Not?  I hadn't thought of it before but most businesses are closed.  I'm sure that includes buyers of our images.

Here's hoping that 'work from home' catches on.   :P

Sales are down 10-15% from last week...  So, maybe.

No slowdown here but I probably have more European buyers.

Haven't these buyers ever heard of working from home?

Lord knows there are enough representations of the concept on the micros ;)

It isn't the whole East Coast.

The snowstorm from last week mostly affected VA, PA, and NJ.  NY wasn't affected much at all by last week's snowstorm.

Today's snowstorm is affecting a little more - from VA to MA.

So, while there might be some people that can't make it to work in those states, that is only a small percentage of the total U.S. population.

Shhh! Don't tell my boss. If he ever gets on board with this work from home thing I'm screwed. He'd actually expect me to do work on days like today! ;)

Heh it's snowing in Dallas Texas..so that's a little far south. Suppose to be moving into southern Alabama tonight. Any accumulation is very unusual with snow in the south but it is accumulating. Around here they close everything when they forecast it, they don't wait to see if it will actually happen. lol

The SS people will think up just about anything to try and justify a sales slowdown. Many of the whiners there will post 20 replies to a really stupid thread, when that time could be more effectively used in creating new and different works.

I would say that the storm affected region reflects a narrow sector of SS sales. As far as people "working from home" in the affected areas, the power outages in the region right now are significant. No power=no work.
