I can not wrap my head around the numbers, SS pays me .38 cent for Subs but a Purchaser pays SS $199 a month and gets 25 downloads a day. An average month is 30 days thats 750 downloads. 750 downloads x .38 = $285. So that would put SS at a negative $86.

Does this mean that they are basically giving the subs away at a loss and attempting to make up the difference with the other download types?

Does anyone know what the price breakdown is for the different download types. For example how much does a purchaser pay SS for a Sub Download, A on Demand , A Enhanced etc. ?

Thanks,

Very few customers use up the full quota of downloads in a given month. Not even close in most cases. I've been an on-and-off subscriber when I've had enough client work to justify the expense, and even then I never used even half of the downloads I could have.

It doesn't take all that much to make a subscription worthwhile, and it doesn't mean that you need to be downloading hundreds of images. If you only need 20 images a month, it may be worth it to just get a subscription compared to some of the On Demand packs. Beyond 20 images, it's definitely worth it. The customer gets a good rate per image, and the company keeps all of profits from those hundreds of unused downloads.

What Mike said, plus it's $249 a month if you just buy one month (you have to commit to a year to get $199 a month) and only some contributors get 38 cents a download - it starts at 25 cents and increases as your earnings do.

Not every contributor makes it to the top earnings level (it's been a while since the sites had the stats that would let us see this, but the pyramid of contributors by portfolio size was very wide at the bottom, and similarly with total downloads per contributor; it could have changed over the last few years, but I doubt it).

Also, the downloads are 25 a day, so if you're a corporate user and you don't go in on Saturday and Sunday you've lost those 50 downloads - about 200 downloads fewer than the nominal maximum in a typical month. If you make a stab at the average sub download royalty at 32 cents x 550 downloads (750 - 200) that's $176 and SS keeps $73, about 30% of the gross.

I'd bet few subscribers download even 550 a month
