I have, until now, been submitting non-people or editorial images.

I submitted my first release to shutter stock and received a:
"Model release is illegible" rejection.

How do I submit releases so they can be read? For my file I took an image of the release teaked it a bit in lightroom and just submitted the jpeg. What else can I do... take close ups of the signatures?

I scan mine. 2500 x 3500 pix
How big is your file? Can you read it?

The file is 2336 X 3504

When I zoom in at 1:1 in lightroom I can see and understand it all.
It is in spanish, but it is a iStock spanish version of the release

I wonder if the language is the issue. Does SS accept releases in languages other than English?

I submit my releases at 850x1100 pixel resolution (8.5x11" at 100 PPI) and have never had a problem. Scan, add a head shot or ID, save as a JPEG. No other processing.

Yes SS accepts ( and has) releases in many languages. It also says they accept releases based on iStock releases. The release would not be valid if it was in english since my models are spanish speakers.

I am starting to think the problem may be my handwriting....

if you are using originally istock's release then i would suggest remove any term "istockphoto" if did not do it already like at the top as heading/title or anywhere inside the body of consent and replace it with shutterstock if possible.

90% of my models are Dutch, I have submitted all releases in English, should they be in Dutch?

Weird..my low res jpg releases are always accepted at IS....

From what I understand, Legally a contract ( which what a model release is) is not valid if one of the people signing does not understand what they are signing. If your dutch models can show that they do not read or understand english then they could sue you, and the people that use your images.

Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer, have never played one on TV so this advice is worth what most internet advice is worth(less)

My plan is to clean up the photographer section of my form... re shoot it and resubmit.

This was a test session... I would like to get these images accepted but I want to learn "how" to get them accepted before I do a major shoot.

I am a little confused - are you using an iStock MR Release or Shutter MR? Make sure you use their model or property releases. I know that several MS Companies want you to use their releases including Shutter and iStock.

I have to disagree with this. I've been using the Getty release with all my agencies for several years now without any complaint. It would be a serious pain to have to use a different release for each agency. Thankfully, none has required that.

If you check deep in the bowels of the web sites of most sites they list which releases they accept. All that I have looked at will accept IS and SS releases.

I use Easy Release app for android and its been accepted by all agencies incl GI, IS, SS, FT and DT.
