So, what happened to SS? The 30% drop last month hurt my totals. This month, the top 3 sites are really picking up and making up the difference, but if SS was where it was June, July, and Aug, I would be rocking. Prior to today, SS was in 6th place!! for the month

Are you speaking per # of picture or per $ ?
In my case, DT and BS remain almost stagnant, while SX is on the rise and SS cruises.

But... my portfolio is still quite small, and I don't do portraits, so this may affect the results too.

Are you continuing to upload to SS?

There's a noticeable phenomenon with them, if you don't continue to upload new images your sales drop off. It's to do with the way their search engine works, I believe.

Shutterstock earnings more than doubled for me the last two months through 2 images which are selling surprisingly well added in late June/early August. Since that I have not added a lot of images, now for almost a month I have uploaded none and there is almost no drop recogniceable..
That makes me happy, regarding that there can be times with good earnings at SS without working on the Portfolio. So you can have a break :-)

It's a disappointing month for me so far. And I am uploading my usual twice weekly batches. Hope it picks up soon.

I would guess one of three things:

1. You haven't uploaded much in the past few months.

2. Your images have been up there for a long time and thus used to show up in the Most Popular searches (which used to really be based on Most Downloads).  Since the search changed in the past month, your images are no longer showing up in Most Popular (since it has changed to a sort based upon time AND downloads).

3. You had a lot of summer seasonal images that are not as appropriate for this time of year.

Thanks, everyone. Yes, I upload regularly. On most sites, I upload 5 a day. On SS I follow the once approved, immediately upload again format, although I am probably going to change that. No, my shots aren't seasonal. No portrtaits, just beginning isolations. A lot of architecture, construction, and 'stuff'
I think the change in sort at SS has a lot to do with it. Always before, my most recent approved and most recent downloaded were the same. That hasn't happened in a while.

Guess I'll ramp up the uploading and try to get the ss portfolio in line with the others.

Just couldn't believe SS in 6th place. Thanks again

You let SS uploading get behind the others.  Shame on you.

Whew, I'm glad it's not just me.  I've noticed a sizeable downturn in my downloads at SS as well and I upload fairly regularly.  I hadn't realized they changed the sort, which may explain it.  I know there's normal ebb and flow but this change is fairly obvious over normal E&F.  Me no likey...   :'(

I know. My original thought was keeping the bar raised there. I have only uploaded images there that have been approved by at least 75% of others. Now, except for DT, my approval rate is staying in the 80+% range anyway, so that may be moot.

Quick question for you on this... just curious how you knew the sorting had changed?  Is this something you just noticed by chance or was there an announcement made somewhere?  If so do you have a link?  Thanks in advance.

I was noted on their fourm a couple of months ago.

The most popular algorithm has now been changed to include a time on site aspect. ie. total DL/months on site.  with an adjustment factor so that the new upload effect doesn't effect the most popular.

Thanks!  I guess I need to visit the forums more often.  I kind of wish something like this was sent out to all contributors by email so those that don't frequent the forums would know.  Oh well, I guess you can't have everything.  Thanks again.

There was an announcement made, and then there were a myriad of forum threads on the topic.  Here is one of the first threads on the issue (from back in July):
