Hello,
I just got a news release from the IPTC council who conducted a small study to test how Social Media sites handle metadata (IPTC/EXIF) in uploaded and downloaded photos.
You can see the results here:

or read their full news release here:http://www.iptc.org/site/Home/Media_Releases/IPTC_study_shows_some_social_media_networks_remove_rights_information_from_photos (http://www.iptc.org/site/Home/Media_Releases/IPTC_study_shows_some_social_media_networks_remove_rights_information_from_photos)
It's a pity that almost no social media site meets all the requirements.
Looks to me like the winner is Google*, followed by Dropbox and 500px.
What do you think?

sorry, link corrected, thanks for the hint, Luis

You'd be surprised what they are taking from you. Not just metadata.
-
I never put up anything on the social media sites, if you read the terms of most sites they claim ownership of the photos.

Thanks for the link and info, Rob. Not a big surprise, though. I'll keep my fingers off FB and others who think they can stand above law.

So we should support one of the biggest rip-off sites, Pinterest, by following your link to read about the report? Every time you click on a link and go somewhere else, you are making someone some money and giving out some data. I appreciate that you posted the links, but I am going to pass on that one. :)

I do post images on Facebook, but always watermarked ones. Also, customers who receive a dvd after a photo session, will find 2 versions on this dvd : 1 high resolution image for printing, and 1 web format watermarked version for facebook and other social media. I am pleased to find out that most of my customers use the watermarked version when they post my photos (of their baby etc) on facebook.

another interesting article from PetaPixel regarding this matter

Very clever idea. I hadn't tried that, but maybe I will in the future. Thanks for posting it Anyka :)

Here you can see the chart without going on pint'rest - "Photo Metadata Test Results Chart" (I came across it in today's fotoLIBRA pro blog post):
