Title: Taxes 2020
Post by: Minsc on February 09, 2020, 20:39
Let's use this thread to keep track of tax-related discussions.

SS was nice enough to provide us with a 1099 for 2019, but I can't say the same about the other sites.

- Shutterstock - Complete
- Adobe stock - Waiting
- iStock/Getty - Compete - Available on ESP portal.
- 123RF - Waiting
- Dreamtime - Waiting

If anyone know how to get a 1099 for the different sites, feel free to share.

123rf is always late - very late - and always wrong.

Looks like iStock has made the 1099 on available on Feb 6. It's on the ESP portal.

I'm not positive, I've just been throwing them in the tax envelope, but I think it was in the last week or so.

Yes, 123RF caused me to have to submit an amended return. Extra hassle and cost. I can't see why they can't get this right!

Yes last week, I was surprised to see it came from Fotolia.  By law the 1099s, W-2 and that, have to be mailed by January 31st, unless made available online.

Has anyone got a 1099 form from 123RF or any idea when it might be issued?

Adobe: I received mine from Fotolia (Adobe) in the mail about a month ago (I'm in NY). Unlike the others, Fotolia's 1099 shows how much you earned during the year rather than how much they paid out to you. I called them the first year I was with them and asked about it and they said that this was because you could use your earnings to buy credits, so they imputed the earned income to you. So, you're paying taxes a bit ahead of time on your final month or so's earnings. (I don't have a phone number but at the time their tax department got back to me pretty quickly - it was around 10 years ago).

Shutterstock: email with download link, unless you request that they mail it to you.

Dreamstime: Dreamstime only provides them if you make more than $600 (I'm not sure if they mail it or it's a download, since it has been a few years since I made more than $600 on dreamstime). I know they don't provide one if you make less than $600, at least they never have in the past and I've been with them for 10 years.

Fine Art America also only provides one if you make over $600, I don't remember if I downloaded and printed or got it in the mail.

Hope this helps.

I sent out my taxes to the accountant. Didn't receive a number of tax documents this year.

Got tired of waiting for 123RF. I also didn't receive my 1099 from Adobe Stock/Fotolia.

I just created a yearly report from my earnings history from both websites. Should be okay.

I emailed 123rf too. I'm just waiting on them to file my taxes.

When filling out US taxes, how do you all handle the Payer Taxpayer Identification Number field for companies that don't send you a 1099?

Normally, in these cases, I can find the TIN in investment prospectuses, but Dreamstime isn't publicly traded.

The software I'm using for my taxes is insistent that they must have a TIN, and my effort to fill the field with a bunch of zeros was rejected.

I just created a yearly report from my earnings history from both websites. Should be okay.

That's exactly what I did with P5 and DT, neither of which sent me a 1099.

However, I did get those docs early from SS and AS.

My taxes have already been filed. Happy!!! ;D

I really don't understand why 123rf can't get it together and provide the MISC1099 already. My income is dropping fast and I would really love to get my tax return filed. They won't provide me with a date either.

Hi Angela

I did find that if you go to the 123RF contributor page to the Dashboard and then to Earnings/Payment History and then select Payment history for 2018, this did exactly match the 1099 we got from that tax year. So selecting 2019 there should be the same match for this year's return.

Yes, I know but sometimes they screw up. Sometimes the numbers match perfectly from year to another and sometimes not.

Two weeks ago Thursday, but I had to email the correction for Adobe, it appears that over payment deduction, last year, was included in earnings.

Anyone who hasn't searched yet, Feb. 15th 2019 is when that happened. For a long time I thought it was an expensive return for a flawed image.  ;)

Just to keep everyone posted this is what they said to me:

"We apologize for the delay.

Kindly note that your 2019 tax statement will be made available via the Tax Center page. The Team is doing their best to provide them next week.
Link: https://www.123rf.com/tax/index.php (https://www.123rf.com/tax/index.php)

Kindly check then for updates on your tax statement."

NEXT WEEK? It just seems so unfair to people who need to file their return.

Hello Steve.
Do they request now W8-BEN for every payment? Or every year?

I think this form is for non-resident aliens or something in the US? I don't know anything about that form.
