Was wondering how/why Thanksgiving affects sales.  It isn't a world-wide holiday.  Do agency offices shut down?  Is it like a regular weekend (no work day)?
I guess I'm asking ... why does Thanksgiving (an American Holiday) affect sales?

You aren't likely to see many american sales over the 4 day 'weekend'

For many of the agencies, the US is a huge percentage of their sales. When it doesn't affect us as much, we'll know the efforts to broaden market appeal have worked :)

Thanksgiving is not so important.
The business is global.

I tend to agree.  From the sites that show me my sales ratio (SS, BS, Veer) looks like about 40% of my sales are non US.  If that holds true across other sites, I guess I will see 60%ish drop.   Not a big deal.  Not like Christmas, when sales just DIE for 2 weeks or more.

Most sales come from the US.  They are off wed-thurs-fri.  Other legitimate countries will have some sales.  The Asian workforce that tends to not pay for licensing will continue to do so over the holiday week-weekend.

You're in the US aren't you?  This isn't new.

Sales always go up massively on Thanksgiving just like any other national holiday. Sales always increase exponentially on weekends too. What a f**king stupid question from an attention-seeking pleb.

Thanks; your opinions are the ones that mean most to me.   They are always so well stated.  ::)

I haven't heard the term "Pleb" since my days in West Point Military Academy!

Pleb Definition-"Actually defined as a member of a despised social class, a commoner, a member of the plebs of ancient Rome. Also low-born, undisinguished, vulgar"

I know the TAC Officers called me a lot of Vulgar names during my first year  :-\

Hey, happy Thanksgiving everyone!  ;)

I thought there would be no DLs today, but some DLs were just reported in the evening, much later than the usual time.

Castle across the river? Signs say belongs to Colonel Osbourne? Ozzy perhaps? Who Knows?

Billy Joel and his songs are all from highland falls.

Ever have Pizza at Prima in Cornwall? Best around!

The point of the post, Sean, was "Why" are Thanksgiving sales slow?  It should affect only US businesses.
I did receive several informative responses -- one PM was especially enlightening.

As for being stupid -- I probably do ask some dumb questions.  Some posts I have regretted.  Posting does tend to expose one's ignorance.
As for attention seeking -- * right I seek attention.  Isn't that what selling is all about?  I want to be seen and heard.  I want buyers to know me and my images.  Anyone who claims otherwise is a fool.

Thankfully, I am wrong about Thanksgiving.  My sales have been great today ... so far.
Thanks to those who tried to satisfy my curiosity.

It's slow because the majority of legitimate business that license stock are in the US.  Same for Xmas, New Years, etc...

Most sales come from the US.
Where are the up-to-date figures?
The last I saw, years ago, the US was the biggest single buying source, but about 40% of the total sales (OK that was iStock, I don't know about anywhere else.)

Christmas and New Years are World Wide, Sean.
What is a "legitimate business?"

A legitimate business is one that legally licenses work, as opposed to most of Asia that doesn't.

Yes, more of the world celebrates those other holidays, which is why sales drop even more.

Not sure what answer you're looking for here.

I've sold 2x as many as yesterday. (which isn't saying much  :().
And not UK biased topics. But nada since the end of the UK business day.
Many of your photos are very 'USian', so I'd expect a large proportion of your sales to be to the US or possibly Canada.

Warren!  and people say I have a bad attitude at times? ::) on another note. I lived in NY for 8 months and during a Thanksgiving period. Not much to it, just another weird holiday the Yanks have come up with. I still dont really know whats it in aid for and neither does most Americans if you ask them.
Same as the Irish with all their Saint this and that holidays,  another word for just going to the pubs I suppose.

To answer my own question "Why does Thanksgiving have such a negative effect on sales?"

It Doesn't.  At least it hasn't for me.  I'm seeing just the opposite -- an upsurge.  Closing in on BME at DT, seeing normal (low) sales at iS, several sales on Big Stock; SS is not strong but most sales seem to be inside North America.

Seems the opinions are mixed.  Situation Normal --  :-\

One day, St Paddys, biggest day of the year, and no other St this days. Just normal BHs like the UK and Europe. They call boxing day St Stephens day, but most countries have 26th Dec off.

Have you ever been to St Paddys? You should. Every country has a national holiday, Holland has Queensday.

Dont mock cultures you dont understand :)

As for the pub comment, the Irish dont need to invent days to go to the pub.  8)

Ha! St paddys day in Ireland is great! was in Cork few years back and on that day, great fun. Youre right though the Irish dont need an excuse for the Pub.
