Interesting article in Photoshelter when the use of stock photography does not represent reality and why users of it should try harder to get the right image.

Very well written blog post.

Unfortunately an image from SS shot in Estonia is probably the closest Betsy Devos has ever been to a public school classroom in the US. That's what happens when you appoint an incompetent idiot to head a major Federal agency. Hope she at least paid for the image. Do you need an EL to post an image on Twitter?

Yeah, the first thing I did was check to see where the photographer was based after the story broke. You'd think the marketing people who work for politicians would be more careful about checking stock photos before licensing. This sort of thing seems to happen pretty regularly...politicians using shots from countries other than theirs to make points about their own country.

Haha, it's funny.

But interesting to see how someone could come up with their own narrative, and find images to support that narrative.

She chose an image that backed her ( partly incorrect ) point. That's on her. It's still a valid image. I just did a shoot in September at our local elementary, and the classroom was just as you'd expect.

If they'd gone with your image they'd at least have been intelligent about it. Now they leave themselves open to ridicule about using a photo from Estonia, which just plays into the perception of DeVos being stupid and clueless.

Well I'm sure they had a "strict" budget.

Or it was just hacked off google images (it is on the first page when I google "classroom" second row)
