Title: The Picture Pod - looking for contributors
Post by: timtpp on June 11, 2011, 10:24
Hello!

We are setting up a new stock site and are looking for contributors, it's a little different though. A really simple site doing one thing. Getting good quality images to the creatives who need them. One file, one price point, a 50/50 split for the contributor and you can download your account balance at any time at all. You can upload as much as you like too. As an intro we are also offering the facility of the team uploading your images for you into your account, then all you need to do is tag them at your leisure. Limited time on this though, the first 50 people to take us up on the offer only!

If you are interested please get in touch at :

[email protected] and we can set you up an account if you pass the acceptance stage. Just send us a few of your lo res shots so we can be confident the images you'll be uploading will be tip top.

Great! We look forward to hearing from you!

The Picture Pod team.

Wow, I'm impressed! A new low in information. Let me be the first to write this one off.

How much for upload per image?

I remember that standard is about 50 Cents ;-)

I went to see if your web site was up, but there's nothing yet. I did look at your blog (http://blog.thepicturepod.com/), but there wasn't much there either beyond comments about " MongoDB - the hippest database since... well, has there been a hipper one?"

As a number of us have experienced all sorts of hiccups with non-working sites, a "hip" database isn't as appealing as a working one. And you haven't provided any details at all about prices or marketing or - anything much beyond a request for our images.

Come back when you've got a site we can look at and tell us something about how you're going to (a) market, (b) sell and (c) protect our images and maybe there'll be something to talk about.

Sounds like a nice start. I'm with Jo Ann though. We definitely need more details and something more tangible to evaluate.

Doesn't really look a little different, it looks quite similar to what Graphic Leftovers are doing, with a slightly worse commission.

It will take a lot for me to upload to a new site now, preferably a cash incentive.  There really doesn't seem to be much point in using yet another site, we really need something radically different.

Well before you gays go gathering from your hard rive, see this

http://posterous.com/people/PV20aKAxiN (http://posterous.com/people/PV20aKAxiN)

and go to the bottom of the page. Looks like the guy is a busy hobby blogger now trying to make a go with stock.

On his invitation with "send us a few low res pics" - Do they have to look as good as the pics on the BreadBaking blog he has?  This guy has no clue on some of the crap people send and obviously knows nothing about the stock business.

And MongoDB on a stock blog? Are you really serious here? How does that even remotely benefit a buyer or a seller?

Using an analogy.. if you say a stock site is a farmer selling a horse, and when a horse is 'bought' a photographer starts uploading to the site...

You have just walked into a VERY full auction mart with many many people selling horses.  Some of the horses are strong fast, money making horses (Shutterstock, iStock, Dreamstime etc.)  some are sick and slow horses, but there are tons to choose from (check out the list on the right).  So you just walked into this overcrowded auction mart, and tell everyone you have a horse for sale too... but the horse isn't at the auction mart to check out, people just have to trust you that it is a good horse, and in fact better than the other horses they are already considering, which are there, live at the auction mart.

My point being.. it is tough to attract photographers these days.  There are a lot of sites to pick from and no one manages to upload to every site.

What microstock background do you have?  Or why is your site going to be successful when so many aren't?

Have you read Lee Torrens research report (https://www.e-junkie.com/ecom/gb.php?ii=600130&c=ib&aff=149606&cl=83334>Click here to view more details</a>)?

The 'going rate' to attract photographers was set pretty high by Veer last year. (http://www.veer.com/ideas/dashforcash/)

Nice analogy, several of the horses I have invested in have gone straight to the knackers yard and the truck is filling up now.  I don't want to see another one of mine going there :)

In general, I didn't waste time tracking this wanker site. At the bottom is says this...

"Posted 1 year ago by Robin Mayfield" Is Tim, is ??? There's no site?

Last update on the exciting blog is 1 year ago?
