Title: Thinkstock!!
Post by: lagereek on March 05, 2012, 12:05
Yes, so whats the score?  do we have to create a new username, etc, or do we keep the old one from IS, when our pics have been mirrored over to TS.

thanks beforehand.

You don't have to create a new username. You can't even sign in to Thinkstock.

Everything happens through iStock: uploads, sales report (usually starting from mid next month), payment.

Your pictures will show as "Collection: iStock" in Thinkstock, but you can find them by searching for your "Real Name" with double quotes.

Yep.  Yahoo uses images credited to TS all the time.  I never had an image used on the yahoo front page until my images were xferred to the PP.  Now I see them there a lot.  Woo yay.

Yes, we should thank SS for being #1 and preventing IS from cutting our commissions even further ;)

If it's istock's subscription business, it's pretty annoying that sales are not reflected back into the main stats and don't count for RCs - personally will never be within an ass' roar of a pay rise there but, for someone with say 2000 images, the 2000 resulting sales even without "OD"s or "EL"s every month could make a big difference.

So the way I see it, Getty has destroyed what they thought was there major concern, that being istock against there collection and at the same time attacking SS sub sales by using thinkstock to undermine them. Plus put indie's in a no win situation except force them to exclusive or withdraw there port if they don't want to cannibliize there sales elsewhere.

Thanks, that covered it and you are correct.

Here we go again. Searching for your images on ThinkStock:

Double quotes - single quotes, it doesn't matter. DOuble quotes are what the search looks for, KISS

You will find them in three possible searches. Depending on when they were moved and probably the phase of the Moon:

"Real Name"
"RealName" (no space)
"BusinessName" (from your IS account)

Seems they screwed up when they started ThinkStock and used real names. People didn't like that. Then for some reason, it switched to real name, no spaces (unless that was my business name on IS at the time, but worth noting) And now new images are being moved over using the Business Name I have in my IS profile. That should have settled down last year sometime.

No we don't get credit. Oh wow, I get 28 cents and no credit. Way to go IS, pretend we don't exist and ignore the people who create the product you market. Also they are forcing ThinkStock file up in searches and promoting ThinkStock subscriptions to buyers, which is taking customers away from IS and directing more and more sales to ThinkStock. Diversion covers it, unless migration makes some people happier.

This certainly seems to have been their intention, but sales at SS would suggest that they have not succeeded.

Well, when it comes to credit/by line, stinkstock gets big props for promoting themselves 100% and most contributors 0%.
Major short and long term benefits for them, so they were darn clever to realize they would get away with it.
(yes, I'm a broken record on this point)

Agreed!  Sales at SS just keep picking up and up.  No sign of a Thinkstock dent in those at all.

I see Veer picking up too, and I'm very pleased about that.

In wartime it's called scuttling your ship.  :o Who would have imagined that mega-big, giant Corp. we own all of everything would do that? It's a sign that people in upper management are afraid to tell the big shots above them, anything but what they want to hear.
