Interesting. There is a thread in their new forum, " lets talk pictures" many members reporting sales of the month and so on. Looking at the portfolios of the ones reporting is really an eye-opener for those who wish to sell through Alamy.
Its all generic content, dogs, cats, travel, cars, vintage-cars, scenics, landscapes. Its basically all chocolate box material from every member reporting sales.
Well its ofcourse a good thing that this material still sell in such quantities but my word?
Alamy is an old hand, been around for ages but this really gives good indication of the kind of material that should be placed and represented by them.

Well, my illus are anything but chocolate box material, but I am quite happy with the sales.

Landscapes.

Mine are a random mix of what I have over there.

Same. I would say that everything sells at Alamy.

Jeez! I was only quoting a certain thread in the Alamy forum, thats all.

Sure, but you were saying that only choc box stuff sells, and when you think how many people are reading this forum, we need to get things right.
All I'm saying is that everything sells at Alamy, as long as it's of a reasonable quality, of course :)

No, it's not all generic content.
Perhaps the observation is based on visiting a few pages of a few posters' portfolios?
If one were to look at some random pages from mine, for ex, one could assume all I cover are politicians (or parades or protests or pets or angels or cities or astronauts or vintage cars...) depending on the pages landed on.

I have some generic items at Alamy, but most of what I license there isn't generic. Most of it is editorial in nature and cannot be reproduced. It sells well.
...and yes, I've also sold pictures of dogs and cats over white - I was volunteering as a photographer at the local animal shelter for a while and added some of those images to my library at Alamy.
-
curious that you are on the end of that topic and doing what?
COMPLAINING ;D
-
Indeed, choc box material. My biggest sale to date at Alamy:

what do you guys expect ? Alamy is specialized in Editorial ... look what sort of images are used in newspapers every day, look at book illustrations, they dont need any "shiny" micro/RF style stuff.
the BBC site in particular is now using a sh-itload of Getty and Thinkstoff cr-ap in every article, some of the images could be lifted from Flickr or Instagram and i wouldnt notice the difference.

It seems that prices keep going down - my last sale netted me only $3 - and sales are few and far between. Losing interest in Alamy, unfortunately.

Tend to agree. But as for content, I can't discern any pattern of what I have sold there - a little bit of this, a tiny bit of that ...
