Hello,
I combined the data of seven different stock agencies to put together a list of the All Time Top 10 Stock Photography keywords.
Guess what is No. 1? (Hint: No, it's not "Business" ;) )
Have fun reading and using:

It's an automatic translation from German, whoever prefers the original, it's here:

Thanks for the link, interesting to know.

Thanks for sharing, very interesting. At least I know that I am photographing the right things :)

FLOWERS??? I would like to know why they are (supposedly) rejected so much! I cannot speak from my own experience - almost all my flower shots have been accepted and have been selling reasonably well. But a lot of people keep complaining about flower-rejections.
-
@peep:
Flowers are very popular with photo buyers, but even much more popular with amateur photographers who take a new camera out of the box and run to their garden or balcony to test it out. That might be the reason why flowers get rejected a lot. I know from some agencies that they have the policy: "We don't want your flower shots, but if you have incredribly good ones, we will take them anyway"... ;D

I'm not sure how valid these conclusions are outside Germany - don't think that "Akt" would make the all time top 30 in English speaking countries... or even that people searching for this term are necessarily looking for photos to download.
I wonder how often this term is searched for in conjunction with #3 "woman" ;)
-
Sorry Holgs,
I have to disagree:
If you translate "Akt" to its correct english Term "nude", "sex" or "sexy" you will find enough evidence that people DO look for it, for example:
"Erotic" at place 48 at the Shutterstuck TOp 100 (http://submit.shutterstock.com/top100kw.mhtml)
"nude", "sex" and "sexy" highly searched for at Fotolia (http://us.fotolia.com/Info/Tags/Searched)
I DO agree that most of these searched won't led to sales as I mentioned in my article as well... ;D

flowers for EU maybe, but sex, nude for US for sure. i 've never seen too many images without the keyword sex or nude, even if the woman has clothes on.
maybe they were old images when the Big 6 sites were desperate for images as a starter. but i gave up looking after keywording on women and shoes to seeing 5 pages on shoes, ie naked shoes with clothed women who are sexy and nude "underneath their clothes". all mostly with nude and sexy in the keyword box. lol.

thanks for this.
I have a couple of flower shots that do very well :), but in context of the number I take it would be less than 0.05% that I submit. If you can name the flower than it seems more likely to get accepted. (although my mum pointed out the number of mistakes I made in naming :))
on the list of 11-30, near the bottom is 'Akt', any ideas what this is?

@ Phil:
The german keyword "Akt" can be best translated to "nude".
As for flower shots: I always ask my mom as well what flowers I took pictures of... :-)

Very true. I have a lot of flowers I have not uploaded because I have yet to find their correct names. I think it is essential as most of my flowers are macros and not "flower backgrounds".
