What do you predict is going to be the order one year from now. I'll start:
Top Tier
AdobeStock
Shutterstock
Pond5
Alamy
Mid Tier
iStock
EyeEm or Stockimo (at least one of the cell phone sites)
123RF
Dreamstime
Then the rest.
-
You've got Pond5 in both tiers.
-
iStock/Getty will drop to the mid-tier, AdobeStock and Shutterstock will remain top-tier. The rest will stay the same more or less.
-
I think the top tier is really only SS and possibly Adobe already. The rest will just lose market share I think. Alamy and Eyem might be OK as they at least provide something a bit different.
-

Wishful thinking :(

Agreed. Even in a worst case scenario for them, I think they'll still be slightly ahead of Pond5 this time next year. It'll probably be quite a while until they are in the middle tier.

Well, this is comparing apple to oranges.
99.99% of people in this forum are photo only here.
Pond 5 is video only.

I'm perry sure a sizeable proportion of forum posters shoot video as well as photo, some have even posted that they submit mostly videos.
But indeed, that's another reason why the poll is pretty irrelevant, without knowing whether people who vote in the poll are submitting photos, videos, vectors or audio, and in what proportion.
-
I just meant they'll be higher than an 11.9 which to be fair, I don't really know what that number means!

Wait? What are photos and videos? I don't make either of those. Honestly, I haven't voted on the poll in so long because it became so irrelevant because of specialization.

Pond 5 is video only.
60% of the posters in this thread do video.

Only 1 in 10,000 people here do video?

Are any of these predictions based on numerical analysis?
Or are they just gut-feeling guesses?

They are wishful thinking. I predict the poll results will look exactly like they look today.

The only numerical analysis thats really possible as far as I know is your own data SS published results and to a limited extent the chart on the right....but in any event numerical analysis of the past doesn't necessarily predict the future. Which is a fancy way of saying yes its a guess.

Yeah, it's a bit of an educated guess. I analyse a lot of earnings from different sites and read on here (minus the doom & gloom stuff) to see which sites are on the up and which are on their way down.
My own stats on earnings is limited as I've decided not to submit to all sites as I think some are not worth the extra effort and will be on their way out soon anyway. If I do see a low earner showing promise I may start considering them.
Any thoughts on low earners that have potential to make it to the mid-tiers and maybe even Top tiers?

I think these "predictions" tell us more about the people who make them, than they do about what is actually going to happen.

You've got a no non-sense up front style. I like it!

Good point generally true about all predictions....look at the way technology predictions tend to be rooted in the current mind set.

My father once said to me: "Nothing ages as quickly as a vision of the future".

The guy who runs it is a historian of past views of the future. Some wonderful stuff.
