Title: Traveling to USA to shoot some stock
Post by: Stephan on September 16, 2016, 16:11
To be 100% legal...

Would I need a working Visa to shoot some stock footage/photos in the USA while on travel? Does shooting stock counts as work before you start selling it? I have a company outside US and I sell stock trough that company.

No, you don't need, because nobody pay money fot that. You can photograph as tourist.

If that was required the stock photography business would not look like it looks today. There would be 1% as many images.

To be legal, yes, I'm pretty sure you would next a working visa. But I really doubt any photographer visiting the US to shoot stock ever gets a working visa just for that.

when i visited ny 2 times i took loooooooooooooots of pictures and now most of them i put them in the  agencies and nobody said anything hehe
the thing is when you will visit us you have to be really  careful what you shoot. and how you are gonna photograph the subject. i ve seen many videos on youtube where photographers in ny mostly,  they were  harassed by   police officers and now  becouse of the whole terorrism paranoia things are very tight  in taking photographs all the time,
also you have to careful when you are doing street photography.Try to avoid to take photos of  some certain buildings or even malls.and  most of all do not take pics of people doing things unless you have a telefoto lens and you are shooting from a far distance
also try to take pics in tourist places or try nature like sea sky or animals or even dogs or pets.

NO. When they ask you at the border what you are doing here, answer tourism. This is 100% legal.

I think you only need a work visa if you are coming to work in the US for someone else.  If you are self employed (at least for photography) and nobody in the US is paying you for work then I think you will be fine - selling on a stock agency after you get back doesn't matter for visa purposes.  Have a good visit!

Just do it now, before Trump becomes president and before he implements an "extreme vetting" on so called "tourists" like you. Before he cracks down on these cohorts of illegal foreign photographers stealing jobs from us, decent, hard working American microstockers.
Enough is enough!

He will not only make American grapes again, he will also make, single handed, American microstock great again!

 :P

We need those grapes for all the wine I'll have to drink if he is elected!
