Title: Uploading files while away from home.
Post by: sharpshot on March 25, 2007, 05:43
I want to do some travelling around the UK and will have to find a way to upload files.  I have only ever used a cyber cafe once.  Will I be able to upload files?

The other option is to get a laptop and use wifi.  I have looked at the cloud,  www.thecloud.net (http://www.thecloud.net) but don't know if they are good or how I would connect.  Anyone used a wifi connection while away from home?

yeah, i have used wifi - was quite happy with it and it was nicer to work on my own computer than on an internet cafe computer.  It is also generally free to use wifi in a cafe (if you buy a coffee or something) whereas you have to pay in an internet cafe.

The problem with uploading away from home is how do you edit them and keyword them first.  This pretty much necessitates you use a laptop doens't it.

You can get gimp portable and filezilla portable but that means you need an internet cafe which lets you use USB devices - Some do, some dont.

this is something I am thinking about as I plan to go travelling for about 4 months at the end of the year.  My current idea is just to do everything when I get back before I start work again (my holiday after the holiday so to speak).

Last Autumn I had a 50 day trip around the Canada and USA, and was uploading almost every day. BUT I did have a laptop for editting and keywording but was pleasantly surprized by the amount of free wifi available. One library in NYC even had power sockets as wifing really eats the batteries.
