Hi all.
Just watching the news from London/Westminster, man arrested with knives etc.
I see that Alamy already has live news pictures on line. How do people manage to upload news pictures so quickly?
For me it involves coming home, working from laptop for captions, tags etc then uploading via FTP. At best a few hours after the event.
Any advice greatly appreciated.

Not sure its too hard these days you just have to have the technology with you....starbucks and the like have free wi-fi and Alamy allow their contributors to upload "live news".

for Alamy Live News you only need a caption to the IPTC description field and a headline to the IPTC headline field. Individual tags are not needed at all, and you can update the pics with tags once you are home

Yea, it always amazes me how fast some of these guys work. Many must work in Fleet Street (media district in London), close by and rush to the scene as happened during the Westminster Bridge attacks.
It's easy enough with a laptop to upload the images after a few minutes, especially if shooting in small resolution which is fine. I once tried to upload 500megs via ftp at a Starbucks and took me nearly 3 hours.

The right time to shoot JPEG. I'm not sure how many newspaper offices are in fleet street these days..I'm guessing many of these guys are mobile and on the look out for celebs etc. I remember seeing a few outside tv studios south of the river once getting snaps of minor celebs.
