Title: Using Clker in Microstock?
Post by: svanhorn on January 20, 2013, 18:41
Thought I would ask this on another board since got no replies on the newbie board.....

Anyone heard of Clker.com?

Mostly clip art but the images are royalty free and can be use for any purpose including commercial.

My question is then can those images from Clker be used in creation of new work that could then be submitted as microstock?

Is that a common practice?

'Royalty free' and 'commercial use' does not in any way mean you can use the content in works you make for sale.  No, it isn't common.

I guess it doesn't make a difference that the site states the images are "free public domain vector cliparts".

So even if they are free to use, you can't use them in your Microstock project....right?

Not unless you have legal proof that the copyright has transferred to you.

Just found one of my images there. It's not supposed to be. Hypothetically if you were to submit it to one of the agencies as yours I think you might be in for a nasty surprise. I would be very careful about using these images.
