Title: Using my stock photos on my personal website allowed?
Post by: TeamC on April 03, 2010, 12:38
Hi All,
My wife has recently started a recipe/food blog and I'm wondering if I can upload some of the photos that I have taken for her and are used on the website?

As a side note, if anyone here has any website design experience, I'd appreciate any constructive criticism since we have never done anything like this before, and don't personally know anyone who has either.  The site is http://splatteredwall.com/ (http://splatteredwall.com/) and we use wordpress.

Thanks!

Yes, of course. You are the copyright holder. You might even want to join the affiliate programme and see if you can attract new buyers. (Sorry, can't find the link offhand, but I'm sure someone else can help.)

The only time you will encounter any obstacles related to this is if you become an iStock exclusive. As an iStock exclusive you cannot offer any images for free download or RF license anywhere except iStock and Getty. You can still use them for promotional purposes on your blog, your wife's blog, Flickr, photo.net, etc.

As long as you submit those images as non-exclusive, it should be fine. Btw - love the website name - it sounds like our kitchen at dinner time ;)

Thanks everyone.  I'm non-exclusive everywhere so it sounds like it shouldn't be an issue.
I hadn't heard of any affiliate programs.  I'll definitely do a little bit of research and see if I can find a way to work it in that will make sense for her site.

As a web designer by trade, I'm not a big fan of the "templated" layouts. However, for what you're doing, it looks fine....easy to navigate, attractive colors, nice sharp images of the dishes. A "4 out of 5"...you should be safe through next week's voting on Website Idol  ;)

Thanks for the feedback.  Yeah, when we were first setting it up I tried to figure out a non-"templated" look, but I quickly figure out I was way over my head if i didn't start from a wordpress template.

Thanks Steve.  I'll let the wife know...she calls the shots on those kinds of decisions.

I'm an istock exclusive and I asked a similar question on the istock forum recently. Here's the discussion (http://www.istockphoto.com/forum_messages.php?threadid=195701&page=1).

The layout & design looks very nice.

The only thing I noticed was the "Shop" tab on the top menu bar - I'd have it go to a page on the site itself rather than to Amazon if possible.

Looks like a lot of very tasty recipies on there - the photos really make them jump off the page.
