It is one thing to list for sale and another to find a buyer, image is free all over the web I guess.
But. Those behaviors enhance and give arguments to people exploiting other people's work.
"See? Everyone does that!"
Too bad.
My personal opinion is that PP is kind of gossiping magazine/site,
pushing people and drama. I don't sell my clicks, yet they are valuable (time).

Offtopic, I cannot understand the scientific value of the image. Not really educated.
I have no idea, for me black holes is what i have watched in Interstellar movie!

But as a still it is one easy to replicate subject.
First thought was ceramic kitchen stove out of focus and shacky shot!

:) :P

"the company published an open letter apologizing for the scandal and explaining the all the incorrectly labeled images had been submitted by contributors."

Shutterstock take note when selling images in breach of copyright! i.e. stolen images from free sites and their own site

Because up until the time they imaged the black hole no direct observation had ever taken place of a black hole.

It's akin Neil Armstrong's first step on the Moon if you like....

I take it you didn't take the time to look at the full size photo just the little crop in the middle published by the mass media, crap sells.

I was just intrigued as to why VCG was singularly named and shamed.

Quote
crap sells.

nope. Forgive the expression but "I didn't care to learn more"
meaning that I have not the time nor the capability to understand what is this all about.
People tend to talk on everything nowadays even if they have partial knowledge,
I tend to avoid subjects that I have total ignorance.

I acknowledge that this is a big achievement they made but (for me) that's it.
There are so many admirable things in this world, done with human efforts and
intelligence but I believe that I have to focus on what I can understand or do.

I currently have 11 bookmarks, following 2 f/b groups and this forum
and Googling everything else when in need.
A digital monk if you wish.
And a joking newbie, around here  ::)
