Hey all, had a question about my video resolution on Pond5 after submission, actually on stock sites.
How do they determine the HD size from my 4K footage ? Since they automatically do that.
for example, if I uploaded something in 3840 x 2160 pixels, how do they determine what my HD video should look like ? Can I specify what i want my HD resolution should be ?

There is nothing to determine. HD is 1920x1080.
If you upload an aspect ratio other than 16:9, some (I think most) sites will convert to 2k (4k DCI to 2048x1080), some crop to HD.
720p "HD" is a thing of the past. When they say HD, they mean "Full HD"/1080p/1920x1080.

The standard is 3840x2160 for 4k (which is really not true 4k, but UHD), and 1920x1080 för HD.

The "Good" thing for buyers is that selecting a large HD file that was down converted from 4K is usually a great detailed image highly available to manipulate in post. Maybe, this also in time make native HD (1920x1080) also a thing of the past? EDIT I mean that uploading a 400Mb 4K clip, produces an 800Mb HD file available for sale.

Uploading in P5 files, pricing start from $25 for HD and $50 for 4K, after that you set the price to the desired one. Uploading 2K initial suggested price is "custom" $15.
I have noticed that whatever I upload, let's say a 200Mb 4K file, the HD equilevant file is double the size 2x 200Mb= 400Mb. A large file with lots of information.
If I offer a native HD "red rose" and you offer a 4K downgraded option to HD same "red rose" file, yours willbeat mine in terms of quality. So my "HD" file goes legacy...

I always upload 4096x2304 4K files, which is 16:9, so it should downconvert to 1920x1080 without issues.
I don't understand why agencies prefer 4096x2160 pixels. It may be "tv" 4K resolution, but in my opinion true 4K is much more convenient to have.
