Title: Vintage / paper label vector designs trend
Post by: Noedelhap on May 08, 2013, 08:07
I noticed there seems to be a trend of uploading and selling vintage label vector designs, as was pointed out in the latest Creative Brief email from Istock. I kind of like this style, so I was wondering, how are they created? I find it hard to believe there are suddenly lots of label designers out there who know how to recreate that authentic 19th century look. Do they simply scan old labels, do they copy them from other artists or are they created from scratch?

Some examples:

The vector artists surely get inspired by looking at very old labels and use elements and recreate them with their own style...  ::)

I believe a lot of the floral elements similar to the vector stock set are from public domain old books etc. (not necessarily that specific one, but that style)

There are some massive scanned libraries of very old books online, I wouldn't be surprised if some of the artists are using those (Gutenberg etc.)

The other two I think are just created from scratch by designers.

A heck of a lot of these sets are just rip offs from other micro stock contributors (again not necessarily the specific ones linked to).

At one point there were hundreds of copies of AKaiser's work flooding the market every day, because she was one of the first to come up with high quality sets in that style.
