They changed the name from ECU to Euro because in some languages the sound was not so good: "el ECU" in spanish was too much similar to "el culo" > the ass, or in german to "eine Kuh" > a cow
;)

I don't think Spain had any influence or say in changing the name and never heard anyone in Spain say that ECU was similar to "el culo". It was Germany in 1995 who proposed to change the name because ECU sounded very French and also because of "eine Kuh".

You don't think but not everybody think like you

From French Wikipedia:
"Bien que le nom ECU ait t explicitement indiqu dans le trait de Maastricht comme nom de la future monnaie unique europenne (art. 109 notamment), ce nom a t abandonn. Plusieurs raisons ont t invoques, certaines d'ordre psycho-politique , d'autres d'ordre technique :
ressemblait trop l'cu, une ancienne monnaie franaise (ce qui tait volontaire) ;
la prononciation en allemand de ein ECU tait trop proche de eine Kuh , qui signifie "une vache"1 ;
la prononciation en espagnol de el ECU tait trop proche de el culo , qui signifie "le cul""

---
Well I don't know how is really the story, but it is not so important I think

Citation needed. There is no citation on the Spanish pronunciation line but there is in the German one.
Go check the Spanish version of wikipedia page and you will notice there is absolutely no reference to "el culo".

Edit: I just noticed ECU sounds more like "le cul" than "el culo". But you are right, it's not important.  ;)

Yes, I have seen the spanish version and some other too, it is referred only in the french version.
Apparently it is an error, or just a joke ;)

And as I wrote before: "I don't know how is really the story, but it is not so important"

Buenas noches!

Hi!

$ has been losing recently to EURO and other European currencies. A question to fellow European contributors - How do you handle this problem? Do you exchange your dollars on Paypal as soon as a payment arrives, or do you wait for better times to make an exchange (then your are not only a stock photographer but also a broker ! ;) ) ?

Not to mention that Paypal steals takes 2,5% from the currency exchange....
