Title: What's better: image-level system(like DT) or photographer-level system(like FT)
Post by: PedroV on January 03, 2010, 09:39
Let's go if I can put this on: Just want to know: what's better, a system based on number of sales on ecah image and level based on images, like DT or a system based on number of sales from the photographer(white, bronze, silver, etc), like fotolia?

Just ask 2cents

Good question. I think DT's image level system is better as the benefits are more immediate and help both the contributor and the agency to earn.

The problem with the contributor-level system is that the agency, in having to pay out a higher % commission, feels it is losing and as we have seen at both FT and IS their incentive is then to move the goalposts. When DT moves the goalposts it is always in favour of both the contributor and themselves.

The DT system of course, since it's also better for the buyer. The level system is a Darwinian system that makes the most salable images rise to the top by the only criterion that matters: sales. Agencies don"t sell contributors but images. A high volume contributor can upload crap images once in a while, and an occasional one can upload a flame.

DT system is better.
Regardless how much good photos has somebody, the bad shoots hasn't to be emphasized. The best shoots do characterize themselves.
The other system (photographer level) is automatically included in this since more best photos means more exposure.
