Title: What's your niche?
Post by: melastmohican on December 09, 2008, 15:12
After half a year on microstock I am not sure if I actually found my sweet spot. I probably have no chance to compete with people like Yuri on studio shots of business situations. So far my most viewed/sold images are nature landscapes.

Yeah, I'm  not in that league either. Mine is wildlife and nature and some do OK but not as well as I was hoping. But that's my niche and I enjoy it so instead of trying things that don't really interest me I stay with wildlife and nature.

I have a focus on isolations and still lifes. I think about the half of my portfolio are isolations. but I guess I should try different things...  :)

I am often not sure about the question wherefor exactly a property release is required, so I sometimes limit my self in this kind of stock photography...  >:( ;) ::) ??? :'(

My niche is whatever I like to take pictures of at the time.  I think you need to find a niche if you really want to be successful in this business.  I on the other hand am happy having this as supplemental income - a very lucrative hobby.

I would think if I got a "niche" I would get bored of shooting the same stuff.  Of couse, 'Jack of all trades, master of none' comes to mind.

I've about decided that my niche is writing.  I'm a photojournalist, just not good enough or fast enough to attract the Gettys of the world.   :'(

The subject that I would most consider to be my niche is rain forest photography since I have a fair bit of subject material close at hand.

Mine is aviation and how this old earth looks from above.  I Don't know if that is a good selling niche in microstock - but it is what i know and like to do.

Come on out to Seattle Epic,

My backyard is a rain forest. Maybe you already reside in the great N.W. Sure could go for some sun and sand right about now. :)

Best,
