Let's just limit it to your primary camera.

is the 5d mark II a prosumer camera?
-
I also have the 5D mark II and don't know what catagory it goes in.
is the 5d mark II a prosumer camera?

I'm using Nikon D3 witch is my only current camera

1ds, 5d and 5d mk2 are professional dslrs. 40d / 30d is prosumer. 350d-450d entry level.

I hate to disagree with you Xalanx but I believe the 5D Mark II is a Prosumer camera.
I'm pretty sure it needs to be weather proof with the more rugged body to be considered pro.
I'm not sure whose site this is, but I did a quick Google search online to double check before I posted. This site has it listed in the Prosumer category

Mine's a black one.
What exactly is the point of this 'poll'? What are you hoping to 'discover' __ that some people use different cameras to others? Just a guess ... probably.

Should have said that before I answered. I guessed that if I sell photographs professionally, to magazines and newspapers, with a 40D, it's a professional camera? When I put on all "L" lenses, say a 400mm f/2.8 Canon, is it professional or prosumer? ???
Simple survey is going to turn into an interesting debate?
A 4mp 1D is a professional camera because it's weather sealed, but a full frame 21mp 5D Mk II isn't? Just can't wait for this to sort out.
-
Iīd say that the result tells if itīs professional or not.
Whatīs inside Pro cameras today are inside prosumers tomorrow.
I wish it was like that with cars...

Where's Yuri... The medium format need one click

Mat, that link doesn't mean anything. I can put up a photo gear website and claim that 5d is the mother of all cameras and then i'll be a second ken rockwell (or chuck norris).
Canon splits cameras in the following categories:
Category 1: 1000d / 450d
Category 2: 40d / 50d
Category 3: 5d / 5d Mk2 (we're FF here)
Category 4: 1Ds.
There's also a category 3-2 or 3 and half what you preffer, for 1D Mk3.
The poll does not have sufficient ranks for all of the range. Therefore, the most appropiate for 5D is Professional Camera. A DSLR with full frame sensor is not a prosumer. That would be the 40d / 50d. Which no matter how many features they have will be always below 5D Mk1, image quality wise. Because they're APS-C. And that's the end of the story.
Features are nice, indeed. But I couldn't care less that my 5D doesn't have sensor cleaning and I need to use pecpads every month, while I'm getting brilliant, razor sharp details and superb colors out of it.
If there would be a "professional camera" that besides all competitors will also scratch your back and read your newspaper with angelina jolie's voice, - that will not put it in the next grade of this poll, to medium format stuff.

Using my 'original' Rebel for the micro... 5D mark II for macro
using both for my free lance work. 8)=tom

Fair enough. It's always been broken down for me that the difference between a "Pro" and "Prosumer" camera is the weather seal and the material used to make the frame of the camera. My main body is a 1D Mark III which is considered a "pro" camera. Who really gives a fiddlers fart though about the title. Obviously the most important thing is the quality of the image and quite frankly, 5D's have been producing some of the highest quality images I've ever seen.

My main body is a 1D Mark III which is considered a "pro" camera.
You have a great tool for action, wildlife and sports. ;)
10 fps... no comment.

Yep - the same with ranking Olympus or Nikon cameras - its D80/90 or Oly E-30 prosumer or entry level (plastic body)? Then E-3 is high-pro because it has probably best weather sealing, likely even better then 1D? Such categories are very disputable.
I would rather choose rank on megapixels (also pretty disputable) or sensor size - comapct - 4/3 - APS-C (both 1.5 and 1.6 crops) - FF and medium format or larger (we have Seitz and other insane cameras, dont we...).
Eg Im using Olympus E-410 though with high grade lenses - the body itself is very cheap however its much closer to D80 or 400/450D then to 1000D or D40/60 regarding its capabilities. And the Zuikos 14-54 and 12-60 are well above eg Canon 17-85 and likely even better then 24-105/4L. So what category? Entry level? :P And while using older E-1 (high quality metal body with superb sealing) its Pro class? ;D

I am in doubts so I didn't vote :)
2/3 of my portfolio was made with Canon EOS 350D
1/3 of my portfolio is made with Canon EOS 40D which I currently use
I am just about to get a new Canon EOS 5D Mk II (hopefully this weekend)
They all are in different categories. Which one to take into account? ;)

Started with a Nikon 8700, then went to a D70, then a D200, needed to sell the D200 and now using a D70 and it still gets the job done. Mostly wildlife and nature. I know i need to upgrade but i really like my D70.

Canon 30D with a couple of L lenses.

What is a prosumer? A professional consumer? A consuming professional? These are all words and have no meaning.
For most paid photographic work, I use Fuji S3 and S5, but for stock, I prefer the Nikon D80, since it has more resolution. Does that make me an amateur when I shoot stock and a pro when I shoot with the Fujis?
-
I'm using a 4x5 inch field camera.

epixx, prosumer is something the camera reviewer coined. in camera sales they "distinguish" you as a user of "pro" DSLR if you bought the most expensive ;) prosumer is the one between consumer and pro. i believe something like my 14MP Pentax k20D is in that category, while my other camera the old battlehorse 7MP Olympus e300 is consumer.
just salesmen talk. ya, i used that too as i sell cameras during the seasonal and festive periods.
make more commission selling pro , and naturally everyone wants to "take better photographs," so they "have to get a pro camera". not my line, but actually a quote from one of my younger colleagues last christmas. ;D
he asked me," which pro camera should i get? my photographs are so lousy with my consumer camera". i told him, " i don't know, maybe you should ask someone who uses a pro camera!" ;)
-
What is a prosumer?
Good question. How does my Canon 400D qualify?
I am not a professional consumer, I am very savvy. ;D

400D is indeed positioned as a "consumer" camera
