This is suppose to be a site were microstock photographers meet. It seems to have turned into a free for all. If I was a newbie seeking help I would think twice about even coming on here and partaking into any discussion on here for fear of being bashed. I don't know that I would even ever come back. When I joined last year it took me a long time to even join in on the discussion on here because I felt inferior. Some of you still make me feel that way because of your attitudes.  Some of you act like if a person doesn't make a living at microstock then that person shouldn't even be on here and is a waste of your time. I guess those of you that feel that way, must have been born with a camera in hand and had all the experience in a past life. You talk about immaturity...well the name calling and bashing is rather immature. That sort of behavior should have stopped with high school. There are people on here that do things I can't stand but I am not going to call them names and bash them on this forum. Even if I don't like them I will still show respect to them and will not disrespect myself. I was raised better than that. I know I will get bashed about this and put on your ignore list, but I really don't care because I can't just sit here and watch this go on. If you are feeling guilty then you probably are. Yes your entitled to your opinion and should speak your mind in a constructive manner but please think before you speak. I am going to leave it at that.

So if you want to bash me go ahead but please stop the bashing of everyone else!!

So you know I'm not hiding behind my screen name...I am Donna Beeler and I live in Alabama.

What am I missing?  Are there secret threads going on I can't see?  I thought things were pretty mild around here lately.

Same here, in fact I've just gone through a load of threads that I normally wouldn't bother reading in the hope of seeing some good old fashion name calling, but I couldn't find any, well apart from that microsaur/old hippy or whatever he calls himself now but nobody takes any notice of his dribble do they.

I started from nothing 2 years ago and have found this forum very supportive and helpful. If you feel inferior, this will be a problem where ever you go, not just here. Sounds like you might be spending too much time on the forum looking for problems? Maybe find some other things to do with your spare time?

Forums always generate a lot of name calling and bashing. I thought it was pretty mild here too. Typically, when I get tired of the same old, same old, I go back to shooting and working and lay off the forums for a while.

There are a fair amount of putdowns here, some subtle, some not so subtle.    Some "experts" can apparently only answer questions with patronizing or sarcastic language, which they seem not to recognize even when it's pointed out.  Just tune them out, and go ahead and post those dumb questions.   There are plenty of people here that are willing and able to answer them without the excess baggage.  I started microstock a year ago and have learned plenty from this forum - some of it from total jerks  :)

I must have missed the juicy threads too. It looks like business as usual around here. I've even tried to not be overly confrontational or sarcastic. Now, my tongue has a big bite mark on it.

Where do you see this happening?

I thought everyone here was rather polite and helpful.

Usually I don't have a lot to say because frankly I don't have alot to say,  . . .  I am new to this game and enjoy hearing from more experienced artists.  But from my time on this forum I think the last few weeks have been a bit boring . . .

no offence but where is the mud.

And batman, and...  ;)
He keeps himself busy now on the Dreamstime forum commenting on blogs. He'll be back though, at the scene of the crime.  ;)

I mostly just lurk here now, but I'd have to agree that these forums are quite mild....

I've been doing only forums, and before that Bulletin Boards since the start of the 90's and this one is fairly well mannered compared to some which are more heailyt moderated..

I think Leaf does a pretty good job of keeping things just right, IMHO.

(And for what it's worth, people who completely hide behind a screen name with no links to blogs/portfolios etc. annoy me a well, but I'm over it...)

I think that if everyone tried be be civil all of the time when posting it would make for a much nicer experience. Just my 2 cents.

I'd agree. The relatively few heated discussions that do go on here are almost invariably between those who are very experienced and therefore have strong opinions.

I'm struggling to understand why you come to MSG apparently wanting to discuss everything and anything ... other than microstock itself.

Dunno what your problem is, Donna, but if you don't value/like what any particular person has to say just hit their 'Ignore' button. That's what I do with people whose opinions I don't really care about. For what it's worth, you're included in that group, and I wouldn't have seen what you wrote if michealo hadn't quoted you entirely.

I guess I missed the controversial threads too.  A link to what threads you mean would be helpful.

I agree that as internet forums go this is a pretty civil one.  There are a few crusty characters around, to be sure, but often those more blunt members have some of the best advice to give.  It's worth developing a thick skin IMO :)

Maybe lurking is the best way to learn?
A wise old man -- older'n me -- once said, "You got two ears and one mouth.  That alone should let you know that you can learn at least twice as much by listening as by talking."

If you have internet there, thanks Dad.   :P

I have heard that the only people with bigger egos than photographers are surgeons.  I know a lot of photographers, and I kind of agree.

With that said though, I also agree that this forum is pretty calm compared to most photography forums.  If you feel abused here, check out some of the other big photography forums and you will come running back here for hugs.

This is the internet.  Take what you want from the information available.  Like sharply_done stated, the ignore button helps also.

I really think some people that come here and say "I just bought my first SLR yesterday and I thought I could make money by selling my snapshots" need some honest paternal guidance, even if the advice may sound a bit harsh.

Hi Donna,
Don't let evil people put you in this state of mind. In life, you can find very few real friends. Try to find some of them here, and stick to them. Why would you let someone who is miles away from you hiding behind a nickname, typing on his keyboard to spoil your day.

In SP I see many people whose friends say he does some very nice shots believeing they do.  It is very difficult to show them the reality.  It's a matter of standards also, everyone around take pure snapshots, then one manages to take photos a bit better, without even knowing why, and he seems THE photographer.
