What does it take for them to wake up anyway? 0,01$? They rather continue complaining about it then take action? Do they have any self-respect? any value for their work? Any working brain cell left in there?
Their earnings are dropping so much soon they can't even use it as an excuse to stick around anymore. What will they do then, wait and hope for things to turn around at SS? chr.st!

It's because of this submissive mentality Shutterstock or any other company does whatever they want!

I don't blame Shutterstock anymore I blame them! and I do hope their sales will go down to 0,01$. Go for it Shutterstock, take everything they've got! They are too f.cking dumb anyway!

Even Jon himself said if you don't like it then take your content and go yet they still don't get the message.
I have never seen such a sad bunch of people in my whole life, beyond pathetic!
And they are supposed to be educated and skilled professionals/hobbyists. If they were new at this and don't have a clue yet then maybe it would be forgivable but these are experienced contributors for gods sake!

So to those who are still active at SS, stop whining and suck it up! you get what you deserve! now drop your pants and bend over!

When you allow to be treated like garbage, you will be treated like garbage.

Now, in defense of those who're still at SS: for most of us it was the top earning agency.
Their new earnings structure basically nuked microstock income for the majority of contributors and probably, over time, it will destroy the complete industry.
It takes time to wrap your head around that, think it over, and maybe step out. Meanwhile, allow them the courtesy to vent their anger, and rant about the business.
It's a waste of time and energy if you ask me, but if it makes them feel better: why not.

I am not judging anyone and I wish others weren't so fast to judge. The anger that is turning towards Shutterstock contributors instead of SS itself is sad to see. First everyone was attacking SS, now they are all attacking each other.
No one know their personal situation. For many people Stock is their main income and for many others it's a side income, that they depend on, because the main income doesn't earn enough to live from, which can happen faster than you think in Corona times.
Even if they earn patehtic amounts for single videos or images, they might still overall make enough money from SS that at the end of the month it might make a difference to their financial situation and without the money, even if it is much less than what they earned before, they might have problems paying their bills.
There are also many people who want to at least try out the new system and get a proper understanding of how much it will affect their earnings before making the decision to disable a port. It's hard to compare data of months or years with 3 weeks, so some people might want to give this a few months to get some proper numbers and that's well within their rights.
If you are fortunate enouh to have a job with a good stable income and don't need the money from SS - Good for you! Disbaling your port was most likely the right call. But not everyone is in such a fortunate situation. Especially during Crona, which sometimes makes me wonder whether SS picked this time on purpose, knowing that many people might depend more on the money than ever.

I didin't get any $0,10 or $0,34 video earnings. It was easy, I just had to disable sales.
I don't understand of people who still accept offals SS thowns. But maybe they are smarter then I, have a "business plan" I miss. Even the person who is running this forum stil has 28k images at SS and hasn't said a word he was unhappy with the new commission structure.

You really have to look at the broader picture:

There is a huge number of contributors on Shutterstock from poor / developing countries. Salaries there are miserable. For example, hundreds of thousands people in the Balkans have monthly salaries of just 160 to 220 $ per month after taxes (full time work, often including Saturdays).

There is a large number of contributors on Shutterstock from rich / developed countries who are unemployed or on very low income for whatever reason.

Many of those contributors are talented, and are able to provide good stock content.

All those people will never deactivate their portfolios, no matter how low the earnings become. Even 0.01$ for a photo is infinitely better for them then 0.00$ if they stop selling their work.
That's why the current (justified) protests against Shutterstock have very low chance of succeeding.
And that's why the earnings will unfortunately continue to plummet everywhere.

It was clear from the charts of dropping portfolio numbers that video contributors were not joining the boycott, because at first their income seemed unaffected. Now I guess Shutterstock has introduced new video pricing, and videographers have the opportunity to feel what everyone else is feeling.

Perhaps now everyone will understand why we all need to stand together. Because you think youre the exception, but youre not. And when you decide to stay because youre doing OK, youre undermining all the sacrifices others are making not only on their own behalves but on your behalf as well.

Worst part is that for images SS gave us a whole 6 days notice
Was there any notice of these pennies video sales beforehand?

The thing is whether image sales or video sales, SS hasnt clearly defined all possible packages theyre offering buyers - making things even more confusing for contributers. Its like there are so many mystery amounts people are getting and they have no clue what kind of offer theyre from.

Some people I guess will keep looking for an answer from SS that may never come - and by then they will have resigned that thats just the way things are

Kudos to all that have enough self respect to walk away from it

Where exactly in the balkans? Cause only my internet phone and cable TV bill here is like 3/4 of that price. You can not rent a parking spot in the center for less than 250$ a month.

With less than 800-1000$ a month you can live in garage on bread and butter and under 1200 you are living as seriously poor saving on basic needs like food.

Yes there are people living from 200$ but so there are also in US for example, living under the bridge or something.

BTW I deactivated my portfolio among first same day they made changes so your points dont stand and you can not generalize people.

I see a guy from states with crappy portfolio of 25000, defending SS all around the place and Russians with huge and amazing portfolio deactivating them.

In Bosnia, Macedonia, Kosovo, Serbia, Montenegro... In Croatia the situation is better. I don't know about income in rural parts of Romania, Bulgaria. Even in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, a seller in a large shop which is selling expensive laptops, cameras, TVs, or a seller in a large, fancy fashion shop can get from 25.000 to 30.000 RSD per month for a 6 work days per week, full time job (which is around 238$ to 270$ per month). People on administrative duties in such companies have around 280 or 300$.  People working in "corner shops" selling newspapers, beverages, etc. or those working in small fashion shops can earn as low as 170$ per month.

But the cost of living is also much lower there, people would not survive if it was different. You can rent nice, modern 1-bedroom apartment in a new building from 160 to 200$ per month (plus expenses). In smaller cities even cheaper. Healthcare is free for unemployed and those on low income. Large number of people in their 30s or 40s (especially if they are unmarried/single) are still living in the same apartment/house together with their parents, because they can not afford to live separately. Still, I admire how those people manage to cover all their costs at the end of the month.

So 0.10$ for an image from Shutterstock, which is unacceptable for many from hi-income countries, is still a nice to have for all those people from Europe, Asia, America, etc. who are on low income or unemployed. Majority will never deactivate their portfolios.

Perhaps now everyone will understand why we all need to stand together. Because you think youre the exception, but youre not. And when you decide to stay because youre doing OK, youre undermining all the sacrifices others are making not only on their own behalves but on your behalf as well.

While the video community response has been more tepid, hopefully the exodus from Shutterstock by video contributors will gain some momentum now. But there definitely was a measurable response already. From my loose monitoring of the numbers, since June 8th Shutterstock's video collection has decreased by about 120,000. Not a lot to celebrate when compared to their totals (about a -0.6% loss), but they would have normally seen an increase over that time, which is difficult to calculate accurately. It's the right direction anyways.

And there is at least a logical option for video creators to consider. Pond5's total videos have gone up by nearly 300,000 in that same time. Over 70,000 increase in the exclusive collection. Pond5: 60% royalty to the artist while still maintaining exposure to Adobe through the partner program? Sign me up. There are no other viable stock video companies out there anyways, so to me it was an incredibly easy decision.

From my view, what to do about photos is the harder part. Shutterstock accounts for the majority of sales and revenue, for a lot of people. We're already on Adobe, and the sales haven't really gone up despite the best efforts of those disabling/deleting/boycotting SS. So kicking and screaming and fighting for the buyers, stockholders, employees, media, management's attention to Shutterstock's heartless, greedy moves with undeniably tasteless timing is all we can do. Cheers to the cause.

Im retired now and was really hoping to have this as additional income. Id have more time to shoot and upload. It isnt even worth the time at ten cents an image. 38 cents was already bad. To me, no, 10 cents isnt better than nothing. And I live in the US, so no, not cheap living.

I don't like to criticize people personally for their business (in)decisions, but I also don't understand why anyone would stick with SS after those sub dollar sales.

I guess it's what they call in poker "staying married to your hand", i.e. when you're holding AA but the board tells you you're beat anyway. You don't want to give up your precious AA, so you stay in the game against better judgement...Back to the case of Shutterstock: contributors don't like what they see, but after years of building their portfolio and enjoying good revenue, they find it hard to quit suddenly. So they stick it out with SS, disgruntled and disappointed, clinging to the false hope it'll get better. Hopefully, after some time most of them will see they're better off without SS.

I also think there are a lot of pie-in-the-sky-ers who think SS will come around and reverse their decision. That might have been true when the company was smaller, but now that billionaires and stockholders are involved, I cant see how (or why) they would.

That sounds nice in theory, but now try to calculate what this month's revenue COULD have been if you had received 25c/30c/33c/38c per sale...

I have no idea about the future earnings. I want to find out if there is anybody in this forum who is better off this month.
The difference of this month is, that the earnings per image vary from 10 cents and 20 Dollar, strange figures, 2.96, 0.80, 3.58, 4.63 and so on. Before I mainly had 0.38 and 2.85. This is a completely new development. If it is for the better in the future, I dont know.

Its simple. Figure out your previous RPD (average earnings per download). Then figure out your RPD for June. I find it hard to believe that you, who only pop here every so often to troll and put people down, suddenly have better earnings when the rest of us have the opposite. Illustrators led the way in disabling their Shutterstock portfolios, which shows the dissatisfaction with this money grab. Your anonymous, impossible to substantiate claim of higher earnings, even if somehow true, would be an anomaly and basically irrelevant.
