He/she was miffed at the -1 and +1 thing for some strange reason. Maybe that? Maybe just needs a break, as we all sometimes do?

strange, yeah.  It didn't look like he was that miffed at the end of the thread.. mostly just curious.

Perhaps there is some posts I haven't seen yet where he had more of confrontation with someone?

I didn't see anything any worse than what you linked to.  Maybe there was some site mailing went on.

Maybe it was the -8 on his original post in that thread?  I think some people may have just been messing with him by down arrowing that post.

He contributes a lot to the group, and I enjoy his posts - both the ones I agree with and the ones I don't (although I never gave him a down arrow - I save those for obvious trolly posts).

I hope he's just taking a breather and will be back.  Charl, if you are following, we miss you and would hate to lose you from the discussions :)

I agree, I always enjoyed his presence and comments. I really hope its a mistake or something because I cant find anything that ticked him off or anything.

He got a bit of schtick on the minus thread but nothing really bad and something good came from the thread that he was happy with.

Charl, if you read this, you are well respected and we would like to see you come back to MSG  :D

I'd like to give a -1 to the -1 and +1 thing but it isn't a good reason to leave here.  Perhaps it's a new years resolution?  I don't make them but some people decide to stop wasting time on forums and concentrate on work.  It usually works about as well as joining the gym :)

CD123 sent me an email and asked if I could post it in this thread.

Here it is

Quote
To those who care (thank you)

2013 is going to be a very big challenge for me. I am medically disabled after a huge heart attack a few years back. MSG was always a great place for me to communicate with fellow micro stockers and I learnt a lot from some of the friendly and sharing members and sometimes just have a nice or wacky chat.

I have struggling against some depression lately, as my future seems quite bleak and I can not even begin to name all the setbacks I (my family) had the past 3 years (I am normally not the depressed type). I tried to work it away and try to stay upbeat. My self confidence did take an obvious knock after the heart attack, because sometimes just getting through the day can be a challenge. MSG helped my finding a place again.

I do not easily let people get me down and is quite capable to square off against an little one-on-one scuffle. What lately started to irritate me was this little packs which will pound on anyone they think is out of line. It also just get disheartening if you make a point in a thread and there is no reply or referral to your point, then directly after that one of the pack would repeat the exact point (sometimes not even a much different words) and get widely applauded for the insight. This is one of the reasons this whole + and thing got totally up my nerves. I chose the wrong post to utter my dismay at the situation, as you pointed out, it was not the case in the specific thread.

Am I over sensitive Yes, most definitely (but not much I can do about it at present). Just had to decide if I needed extra negatives or upsetting situations in my life at present and decided that this one is under my control and I can cut it out before the new year start.

I actually wanted to refrain from looking at the site again, but I prepared myself for the worst (like good to see his back, hope we do not see him again soon, what a troll, etc.) and curiosity killed the cat.  I did read the inquiries about my closure of my membership. I know it is only a handful out of thousands members who had a friendly word, but you guys gave me a lot of hope and encouragement. Thank you for that.

I still need the break now, I think, but if Tyler will allow me back (hopefully) in the close future, I would love to come back.

Hope all of you who endured the old screwy South African, have a great year!!!

Regards

Of course you are welcome back any time.  I'm sorry to see you leave but certainly understand you wanting to take a break.  Posting on forums requires at least a certain amount of 'skin' and when a person feels 'without skin'.. things can feel very personal and hurtful, even when they are not meant so.  I wish you the best of health and mind in your situation and hope you feel better soon.  Depression is like any sickness, it overtakes the body and isn't just a matter of 'deciding' to feel better.  If you feel MSG is making you more sick, a break is probably a smart move.  On the flip side, hopefully in the future this place can be a place of encouragement and comradery for you, building you up more than tearing you down.

Very well said Tyler.

It'll be lovely to see you return whenever you feel ready CD123.  You will be missed but I think it's brilliant that you have made the choice that you feel best serves you right now.  Wishing you very well for now and for the new year to come.  Take care of yourself (as you are!)  ;D   ;D  ;D

Charl (Tyler) Thanks for posting.

God speed Charl and I hope you find your peace of mind soon. I dont know what you are going through, but I can make an educated guess from my own perils in life so I understand completely.

Get well soon brother, I love the South Africans as their Dutch dialect is the coolest in the world.

Het ga je goed vriend, ik wens je alle geluk en beterschap in de wereld.

We'll take you back anytime. Peace.

Well said Leaf.  I hope 2013 is a good year for you Charl.  I can't imagine how I would cope after a huge heart attack and suffering from depression.  Your health is far more important than this forum and I can understand why you have left here.  It would be great to see you back some time in the future.

The man makes many good points (at least in so far as I agree with everything he says).

Taking a break when needed is a fine thing to do. Whenever you're up to resuming here, I'm sure most of us will still be here :)

Have a happy, peaceful and prosperous New Year

Thanks for posting that, Tyler.  Agree 100% with your perceptive and empathetic comments too.

Charl, it's nice of you to offer such a heartfelt explanation for your departure, and you have my very best wishes.  I have been through my share of health challenges and depression too.  In fact we are dealing with some of those issues right now in my immediate family.  So I can definitely understand the toll it takes on you both physically and emotionally.

Please know that although it gets rough and tumble here, you do have lots of people who regard you as a friend, or at least whatever qualifies as a friend on a chat forum.  :)

You and your family will be in my prayers that you will recover both your health and your peace of mind.  If you need a sympathetic ear, you can feel free  to e-mail me.  My site link is at the bottom of my signature and you can e-mail me from the site.

Wishing you all the best, and looking forward to your return!
