Hi!

I wonder if there is somewhere a website to show a list with the legal issues we might shoot and we are not allowed to, or we should mark as editorial...

I know for example the Tour Eiffel needs to be editorial if it's shot in the night but I'd rather read these requirements than discover them myself...

Thanks.  ::)

The agencies have slightly different rules about what's acceptible and what's not, and can be inconsistent about how they interpret their own guidelines.
He's iStock's Technical Wiki, which is an unintuitive name for their list of what's allowable, and what isn't.
Note that this can change at any time.
http://www.istockphoto.com/tutorial_copyright_list.php
Also note that a site's guidelines can trump actual law. It's easier to make a blanket ban than have inspectors flicking through a list of what's allowable in what country.
Hopefully some indies will tell you where to find the info for the other sites.

I'm sure there is a good link somewhere but I forget where I've seen it.

You can add things like lego, john deere tractors (their color), Rubix cube

On one of the lists I once saw there was mentions of things like the indent on the side of ford cars and a few other smaller things that a person might not otherwise notice.  It get's a little crazy after a while really.

In the UK, the Chief Constable of ACPS issued these guidlines to all police in England, Wales and Northern Ireland:

26 August 2010

Dear Colleagues

Guidance for Photographers

I am writing to you in my capacity as Chair of the ACPO Communications Advisory Group which sits in the Presidential Business Area.

There have been a number of recent instances highlighted in the press where officers have detained photographers and deleted images from their cameras. I seek your support in reminding your officers and staff that they should not prevent anyone from taking photographs in public. This applies equally to members of the media and public seeking to record images, who do not need a permit to photograph or film in public places. ACPO guidance is as follows:

There are no powers prohibiting the taking of photographs, film or digital images in a public place. Therefore members of the public and press should not be prevented from doing so.
We need to cooperate with the media and amateur photographers. They play a vital role as their images help us identify criminals.
We must acknowledge that citizen journalism is a feature of modern life and police officers are now photographed and filmed more than ever.
Unnecessarily restricting photography, whether for the casual tourist or professional is unacceptable and it undermines public confidence in the police service.
Once an image has been recorded, the police have no power to delete or confiscate it without a court order.

If you require further guidance please refer to the ACPO website or contact my Staff Officer Robin Edwards at [email protected].

Yours sincerely

Andrew Trotter
Chief Constable
Chair of ACPO Communication Advisory Group

The guidance given to police in Scotland (where we have a different legal system) from ACPOS was virtually identical. A paper copy was given to me by a press photographer, but I can't find an online link.
