Hi ,
we need to buy a bigger bulk of images for our customers and we dont like to support the worst exploitators.
What agency has the best compromise between good material online and good royalties for the photographer?
We do not mind to pay more than the usual "mean 30 cent"

regards axel

Check out the Symbiostock network. Launched about 6 months ago it consists already of more than 100 independent artists offering a growing number of currently about 120.000 images for licensing. Because there's no middlemen involved you are supporting the artists 100%. You can start looking at my site (see link below). The search on my site will take you to other member sites in the network if I can't provide you with what you are looking for. You can also start searching at a hub site such as http://www.symbiostock.info/, which provides a global network search.
Even if you don't find what you want now, make sure to check again in a few months since our network is growing fast.

Good luck!

You said you need to buy in bulk. Stockfresh pays 50% to the artist and focuses on quality images so it might be a good compromise if buying the single images at Symbiostock is too expensive. Im just offering another option.

GL Stock pay a fair rate but sell images individually. If you want a subscription, go to Shutterstock - the contributor doesn't get paid much for subscription sales, but most would agree that they make more money there than elsewhere, due to the higher volume of sales.

Judging by the size of your portfolio (nearly 7000 on SS) don't you already know the answer to this Axel? Which site pays you the most? If you are trying to find out which sites to join next because they pay more then just ask that question.

You know I am not an artist there but "Stocksy" treats the artist the best and has some amazing work, give it a look. iStock Exclusives get paid better and the collection is deeper.

yes, thats right, am photographer too and the royalties of my portfolio on SS (or others) are just to support my apprentices (new gear / workshops / travels etc) and it does not generate my income. Thats why i dont care much about all these royalty constructs (EL / DL / SOD and all that quite difficult to understand "shares"). Thats the job of my apprentices.

I generate my income as the owner of a marketing company.

But - and thats the link - i hate it if photographers get ripped off and so i want to buy only on sites with fair conditions for contributors.
Got it, "me" ?

we do not want to buy in bulk.
we need to buy a bigger amount but we are willing to buy as single downloads.
we do not want to buy as subsriptions because we dont like "exploitation models"
Fair prices for good work!

Axel, you sound exactly like the image buyer we are looking for and appreciate most.

Fair Trade is what you get on all the sites of the Symbiostock network.

Welcome!

Alamy pays 50% to the artist (non-distributor sales).

Axel, I fully applaud your stance regarding not wanting to rip photographers off but I am rather confused.

You don't want to buy using exploitative sub model but you sell on the largest sub site there is?
You need to buy a bigger amount but you don't want to buy in bulk - isn't that what a larger amount is?
You don't care what your images sell for or what you get paid for them but you do care about what everyone else gets paid?
Isn't that like working for a marketing company and not caring what you get paid?
Would be interesting to hear your apprentice's pointsof view on this.

Anyway, off topic, apologies.

The advise already given is spot on, paying 50% or thereabouts except Symbiostock paying 100% to the artist.

Good luck.

How is that confusing? I submit my images to iStock, but I wouldn't never ever buy there (or recommend the site for anyone)

Rather hypocritical don't you think? Your images are good enough to sell there but you are too good to buy there? Why wouldn't you buy from there?

Agencies with fair percentage not mentioned yet:

Zoonar
Clipdealer
Pitopia (I believe you are from Germany, so a German site would be fine).

Featurepics is another one with 50% royalties and I think a fairly large collection.

Agreed, check out stocksy.  Fair prices (for both the photographer and buyer), interesting images, fair royalties (50%, 100% to the photographer on extended licenses) and it's a Co-op so the photographers own a bit of the agency as well.

If bulk means something like take part on a subsys i dont want to buy a bulk.
if bulk just means bigger amount then we want to buy a bulk.
but i am sure that you still find something you can (or do i have to say "want"?) misinterprete

for the rest of your questions i recommend to read my statement above carefuly and not only scan over it.

I don't think I'm being hypocritical. I'm open and honest about this. Why do you think I should buy at IS? Or recommend them to someone? Because they treat their contributors nicely? They pay their contributors well? They don't even have a slick, working site... :P
