I was curious.

When tracing pictures to create silhouettes for vector files do the photos traced have to be yours?  Can you download pictures from free stock sites to use as a model?

Cheers!

If you are planning to sell the finished product, you must own the copyright to any source material you use for a trace.

And please, don't ask why so many contributors with so many silhouettes of such sexy girls in their portfolio do not put the source photo as well which would sell like crazy :)

In case you are even remotely serious, I will take the bait. I don't think many of them use actual source photos, and if they did, it doesn't mean they'd have a chance of getting past inspection. However, my response was based on the OP specifically stating that he would like to "trace a picture", specifically one taken by someone else.  ;)

MS Paint will do the trick. ;)

Regarding the OP, if you plan on selling silhouettes at istock, you'll need to show the original source files. Other sites are more liberal with that rule, but as a personal rule I suggest shooting your own source material.

Hey, I know how to paint so I think I'll pick up a copy of the MS Paint on ebay and make some too! Looks like easy money to me!

Actually, the best way to do it is to paint directly on your screen. Oil paints work well, with some nice medium size brushes. ;)

Note: I'm not responsible for any dopes that read this and damage their computers with paint.

Cool, thanks! I have a half a bag of those sponge brushes left from a craft project. Think that will work okay?

Even better. You can cover more of the screen faster with those.

Then take a Screen Shot and you have it all?  ;D

ps Microsoft Paint is free and comes with Windows.

Here's another free one, that I never tried.  http://www.getpaint.net/
