basically its a 'guy' that is using a website/api with 23k free pictures (coming from perhaps FT, DT, other) available and on a side note buyers can look at RF files from SS, FT, DT etc, pretty much he is getting comissions from referring buyers

I believe the owner is Petr Kratochvil looking at the amount of referrals he has on DT (http://www.dreamstime.com/Littlebobek_info)

Do you mean the one that takes you to shutterstock for purchase? That's not free.

I don't think that one does, it seems to be one of the ones being given away for free to pull in punters. Ask him to remove it, I'm sure he will

ETA, my mistake, that is the site owner's one, the ops does seem to just link to SS so no problems

Probably nothing, they'll likely be a legitimate 'partner' or whatever SS calls them.
There are loads of this sort of bait and switch sites out there, which advertise 'free' and probably have a few cr*ppy free images in there, but they're really to garner referrals at the agencies.

yesterday I have tried to see if they are really free but actually they arent unless it is the 0.5MP non-watermarked picture, the full sizes you need to subscribe a plan and the min is 72 EUR

Hi, although this topic wasn't active for some time, I was hoping to find some answers here from professionals.

I am working on a smartphone jigsaw puzzle app where users can put together a bunch of images. Therefore I was looking for suitable pictures out there. This is how I found PublicDomainPictures.net which was mentioned above.

It says the pictures found on that website are public domain and "free to use", even commercial, but I couldn't found any real disclaimer or licence text, so I am not sure about that.

What I want to do is to include some pictures into my app and to provide some more pictures that can be downloaded from a server from within that app, and those images can be used only inside the app then, as a jigsaw puzzle. Maximum resolution of an image would be 1024x1024 pixels.

So am I allowed to use those pictures or not? Credits would be given to each picture, of course.

As tab62 mentioned above, there are obviously also images there that are NOT "public domain". Or may I use them, as long as I do not require high resolution copies from them? That's quite confusing for non-photographers... :-(

Thanks for helping
Mike

If you are looking for photos that you can use in your app without paying and only providing a credit, you may want to check out www.sxc.hu. It might be just the thing for you.
