Title: Who is Art.com and AllPosters.com?
Post by: daveh900 on January 08, 2014, 18:03
I'm assuming they are partnered with one of the stock agencies, but who?

Thanks! ;D

AllPosters has been around for years.
Don't know about Art.com or any agency tie-ups though.

Interesting that some of my work is featured there and credited with my user name.

It appears that some of the work has come from Shutterstock/BigStock.

You'll need to check with SS, or post a query here in the SS forum, which will maybe attract more interest.

After poking around it appears it is likely a BigStock partner site.

AFAIK they both belong to Getty, but I may be wrong.

Did a quick online search and it appears that Art.com merged with allposters.com in 2005 and that they are not owned by SS or Getty:

From their corporate website:

"Art.com Inc. runs five sites in the USA—Art.com, AllPosters.com, ArtistRising.com, PosterRevolution.com and Zenfolio—and has a strong international presence with 25 local sites in Europe, Japan, Canada, Australia, Mexico and South America. "

Here's their site: http://corporate.art.com/aboutus/default.asp (http://corporate.art.com/aboutus/default.asp)

If you've permitted the licensing of your photos as prints for resale on bigstock or other sites, that may be why you're seeing your work there. They probably have licensed it.

Does this help anything?  8)  The Bigstock Collection category contains 13,540 items

And this:
Your search for 'shutterstock' did not return any results.
(nor did Fotolia, 123RF, Dreamstime, or iStock)

So, as I surmised, they could be licensed from Bigstock. Unlike SS, Bigstock gives you the option of allowing or refusing to allow your photos to be licensed as prints for reproduction. If you have photos that you are selling as prints yourself, best to not allow them to be licensed that way if you're concerned allposters and art.com are competing with you.

I wonder what kind of license they pay for? Either way it's not really competing unless you sell POD? And as a compliment to AllPosters they are selective and have nothing of mine up for sale there.  :)

Question would be, do they pay, you get a quarter and they sell the print for $39.99? That would suck. I'd agree.
