Title: Who is LTL Prints? Also, who is art geist?
Post by: Xalanx on April 11, 2010, 02:39
I found this image of mine http://www.ltlprints.com/catalog/view_fotolia/18846668 (http://www.ltlprints.com/catalog/view_fotolia/18846668) on their catalog. I also found my entire portfolio and if you're on fotolia you'll find your portfolio too. However, you can also find your portfolio no matter if your on SS, 123RF or others.
Are they for real? I never enounter a reseller to be an afilliate to more than one agency.

Also, I found these guys, which have the images from Fotolia: http://foto.artgeist.com/sv/gallery/Welfare/Beauty/Latino_Beauty.html (http://foto.artgeist.com/sv/gallery/Welfare/Beauty/Latino_Beauty.html)

But if you click any image it'll open another page with a big version of that image, with NO WATERMARK!!!

You could email fotolia support and ask if LTL is an affiliate. If they are not you can ask fotolia to send a DMCA notice to them. You could also send one yourself. Paragraph 6 of their Terms (link at the bottom of the page) talks about copyright stuff. They are leaving the watermark on and looks like giving credit to the photographer under the photo. If FT has an extended license that allows that type of printing, but you never sold an extended license, then you could email both LTL and Fotolia. They would be using your photos illegally and a cease and desist notice could be sent.

Same with the other site.

It makes you wonder who really owns this art if you upload to a site and lose all control of where or how it is being sold. If this is legit, I'm curious about the license they sell for these too.

Big problem. I found my best selling image there courtesy of Fotolia, with no watermark. I easily copied it to my desktop, opened it in CS4 to a file size of 4.7" x 7.1" at 72 p/inch. It should have been captioned: "Steal Me".

Fotolia actually does the same thing. You can download an unwatermarked comp that is the same size. I never understood that.

I sent a message to Fotolia support now. I'll let you know how it goes.
Don't hope too much, though.

In fact the image is shown without watermark in Firefox only. Opera and IE show the watermark in place.

Have a look at this image for instance, open it in all browsers you have http://foto.artgeist.com/sv/image/21725574/Welfare/Beauty/Latino_Beauty/p/0.html (http://foto.artgeist.com/sv/image/21725574/Welfare/Beauty/Latino_Beauty/p/0.html)
