An old file, like 6 months, sold once I believe on SS, all of a sudden gets downloaded several times in the last week on a couple of agencies. I find that intriguing.

If we knew why we'd all be rich.

Same situation.
Only on one top agency.
We will see...

A place that was in the news; a story about that topic that got a lot of coverage...could be random but probably it's just that you hadn't realized the temporary significance of your image. It'd be really great if we knew more about where the images are used.

Its a really conceptual image Jo, not really related to a story. Its more of a fantasy photo, kind of like the mary poppins idea.

Beats me.

Search algorithms are changed often on (some) sites. Since you didn't mention any site by name it might have been at a site where you can search by price and yours was cheaper than the next persons. Some sites shake things up to move the images with no or few downloads to the top of the queue. Or, new buyers come on board and are looking for images that have not been downloaded a lot, or old buyers are tired of looking at the same overused images. There are a lot of requests for ebook covers that deal with fantasy subjects - everyone thinks they are an author these days and an ebook is easy to publish. Who knows? Just take the sale.

Poncke, get used to the "unknown".  Trying to figure out anything in micro is intriguing, but not realistic.  Floundering with possibilities makes it fun to ponder, but unrealistic to realize.

A sale of an image seems to beget further sales, maybe gets a popularity boost in the search engine...?
