Hello folks,

In my case i notice good performance of Fotolia. I just started last month uploading and sales are coming in already regular. It performs already better then my Dreamstime port for example.

My wish is just that they introduce editorial. Smaller agencies like Depositphotos or Bigstock have this included. Since sales of editorial are going well on other agencies i have no doubt that it will perform on Fotolia.

I asked Fotolia already per mail if there is a chance for editorial in future. They answered that we will get notified if this happens. For me it sounds that there is a hope.

Do you also think it is time for them to introduce it?

I'd love to see editorial on FT also.  I've requested the same several months ago but at that time there seemed to be no movement in that direction.

One more vote.
Actually more than half of my ports in other agencies are editorial....
I hope Matt can draw the attention of relevant people in FT/Adobe to consider editorial option.

I can really inmagine that after a while editorial on Fotolia will make success like on other agencies. Editorial section is as far as i read on different articles a big market. This are all clients that Fotolia on the moment is missing and are doing shopping at SS, DT and IS.

Vote against editorial! And with Adobe Stock it would be crazy to offer it!

I guess user 50% is selling editorial outside Microstock and thats why he is off course not happy to see it on Fotolia, SS, IS and co. It would mean that more and more decrease of sales at the RM agencies. I could not see any other reason why he put such comment here. For us Microstock sellers editorial will only mean an extra income stream.

Seems like you don't have any editorial content. Why to stop others earn some more bucks?  :P

Did you use Adobe stock? Designer implement their pictures directly this would lead to have edititorial pictures in commercial design this would lead to serious legal issues with key customers (ad and design agencies) of Adobe. They would be crazy to offer it now!

Yes I do sell editorial outside Microstock but if Fotolia would offer editorial I don't think this would affect my sales as there are more than enough micros offering editorial already. Adobe's client are mainly Designers it wouldn't make sense and would lead to legal issues that is the reason.

I'm sure most designers can read a big red (or whatever) Editorial banner and understand what it means.
Designers also design editorial publications.
What I'm more concerned about is why people are so anxious to offer their editorial content for 'as low as 25c' (depending on status on Ft).

Have a look at Adobe Stock! They want it as easy and carefree as possible most designers I'm aware of don't know the term editorial in regards to photo usage anyway.

Editorial section should not be a problem. It is very clear. If designer wants for commercial use he will not take a editorial photo. On the other hand if somebody would like to create a article about the company Coca Cola and there is not one Coca Cola image on Fotolia he will jump to other agency or not buy a image at all. This is a pitty. Editorial and commercial buyers are two different worlds. The point here is to make Fotolia also open for editorial clients. It is working very well on DT, SS and IS... why not on Fotolia.

I used to sell editorial also on Alamy. Yes on FT or SS many sales are 0,25 ct or 38 ct. But there are also many extended ones. It is the quantity what it makes. For me there came a point where the editorial sales on Shutterstock surpassed Alamy by far. Revenue and quantity wise. Last months i received on Alamy for editorial sales revenues like 4 dollars or max 17 dollars. I got on Shutterstock for editorial taking in account the quantity of sales much and much more then on Alamy. The buyers that are allready on Shutterstock will not jump back to Alamy. Why they should pay 40 dollars (brutto) for editorial photo if they can get the same quality for 2 dollars.

My point is that the amounts are maybe often small but the quantity makes the total revenue surpass Alamy by far in my case. Maybe for you it is different because you have a high rank on Alamy but for most contributors there is more space for earnings on Micro. Only looking at SS..... they paid only in 2014 84 million to contributors. Alamy didnt do it in 10 years time. I expect that Shutterstock will pay next year more out to contributors then Alamy did all their existence. Off course Alamy is a great agency anyway with the best service i ever experienced to contributors. I just talk about the numberal facts.

... why not on Fotolia.
If at all Fotolia will only remain as a backend for contributors in the future. The future is Adobe Stock and there is no place for editorial. People commenting on this thread should have a look at Adobe Stock or even better work with it!

FT is not all about Adobe stock.

And I totally agree with ShadySue, designers will find there content even if FT offer editorial. Don't you think that designers use SS?

What I see on photo credit lists is that the same publication uses more than one source, and in the case of editorial books, often over 20 sources.
If you have a unique pic, especially one which is not going to be in high demand, it makes sense to put it where you'll get the highest rpd. But choosing where that will be is difficult. E.g. it could be Alamy, but if the buyer has negotiated a bulk discount, that unique pic could go for a very small amount.
Don't delude yourself that the quality or uniqueness of the image counts for much. The negotiating power of the buyer counts for much more.

I really hope editorial will be available on Fotolia sooner! Can not see how this is a wrong move.
About the designer argument... If a designer is smart enough to work with any Adobe product, he/she should be smart enough to distinguish commercial from editorial content (a matter of a single click).
Don't forget the Media. Most of the times newspapers, magazines, televisions, news sites prefer real and unstaged people.
