Title: Would you like your own stock photo agency?
Post by: Cato (Clipcanvas) on November 21, 2012, 20:59
I work in the video department on a pretty regular basis, and let me say this - handling images is what we do for breakfast. Would you like to be part of something completely new? Then take a look at this post for a second!

Clipcanvas is growing quite nicely at the moment. We have no intentions of moving into the image department - why would we? We figure this is a crowded space with a lot of casualties, and what we really care about is motion...this is where we come from!

Would you like to kick off a fresh and completely different image agency? All of you already represent a nice intersection of the relevant images - so why not, right?

In March 2013, we're running a start-up Workshop in Oslo, Norway. You can take part. The objective is to enable you to build the next generation photo community marketplace.

We will give you an exclusive copy of what we have already created, namely the Clipcanvas video marketplace, a handsome "start-off" financial funding to get you going, as well as access to what we have learnt about your business in the past 4 years.

This is simply an opportunity, nothing else, and we're reaching out on the MicrostockGroup forum at this moment, just to make you share any ideas you may have to help us determine the interest in something like this. If this is something you want, then let us know why - if you think it is a bad solution, then help us understand why you think it is so.

You say you want to be in control - but do you really? If so, then this is your chance.

BTW - In this respect, I am simply a spokesperson for Clipcanvas. If you think this is something you would like to be part of, and you have some thoughts and ideas about how you might succeed with such an endeavor - please share them with us below.

Cato

(Oh, and a more "formal and open" invitation will be posted in due time, of course. March is still some time to go.)

So, if you're not interested because it's a 'crowded space with lots of casualties', why would you be interested in backing someone in that space?

Question to straight! Please rephrase to allow for vague, meaningless reply.  :P

If you pay for me to come visit Oslo and see what you have on the table, I'm in.  ::)

As I am already and have been for years, a "sleeping partner", in a trad-agency and a micro-agency. The answer is: no. I would definetely not want to be nor invest in any further micro. This industry burns you out and it doesnt matter if youre an agency owner of full time microstocker, it burns you out.

And 1965  is a long time ago! :)
(I looked it up. I thought it was later than that. Shades of Ken Grimwood's "Replay")

"Norwegian Wood" was suppose to refer to drugs.  But then again, back then, everything was suppose to refer to drugs.

I always thought it was just literally about a girl: a promising date turning bad. Why should every Beatles' song have to do with drugs or have a second meaning?

By the way, I'd suggest listening to Zappa's "Camarillo Brillo" too. Listening to one song always reminds me of the other.

How does an invite to open a stock agency end up in a drug war?

Incidentally, wonder what happened to the OP?

I've heard so many times about starting a new agency, and seen so many new agencies fail, that I can't take it seriously anymore. That's my personal reason for talking about the Beatles instead of the OP. Seriously.

Just as long as the choice is between the agency and the Beatles and not the agency and drugs  ;D
PS I'll rather open a Beatle agency..... ;)

So let's put it to bed, so to speak:

Lennon later explained that the lyric was about an affair he had been having:

"    I was very careful and paranoid because I didn't want my wife, Cyn, to know that there really was something going on outside of the household. I'd always had some kind of affairs going on, so I was trying to be sophisticated in writing about an affair. But in such a smoke-screen way that you couldn't tell. But I can't remember any specific woman it had to do with."

So what you are saying is that you are after an investor and a business partner? Is that correct.
