as we all know  lately  microstock  prices getting higher among big players while smaller sites  try to compete with  them by their lower prices.

I wonder what sort of effect it would have to keep uploading those two type of agencies at the same time. would it mean reaching a wider range of customers or would it in some way make  buyers go to those smaller agencies with lower prices thus harming our own earnings?

I'd like to hear your opinions?

Interesting question!

Lower? Shall everything digital be totally free?

The big 6 are so low priced, that i wounder if its worth the time at all?

Uploading, starting a portfolio and keeping it alive takes time and if you are in 10 sites it takes a lot of time.

I am not sure that the small sites can last very long.

If photographers are going to get anything of the marketing budget that businesses and providing companies gain cred for, we should not even think about lower the prices.

I will give sites like mostphotos and other small sites that try a different approach to the market a try, but never ever will i go lower than what the big 6 are offering.

it is really most worth anyones times to upload to the top 6-10 sites and nothing more.  The people who upload to other sites, either have time to kill or are hoping to get lots of images into 'the next big site' .. but as far as serious time investment is concerned, you should stick to the proven earners.

Well people people make between $.50 - $3.00 /picture/month on the big 6  If you have 1000 images to upload that means $500 - $3000 / month for having them on the big 6.  this income will continue for who knows how long.  A year? 5 years? 10 years? more?  . i think it would take perhaps 1-2 weeks to get them online (except for istock).  So weather it is worth your time you have ti figure out yourself.

Ok . Right now I'm on like 20 agencies. All the classic big ones and many many, many small ones.

1. Each website has it's own customers. As a good friend said.. customer do not move from one site to another in search of the lowest price.. the prices are low as they are and noone would do a big research to find the place that sells $2 cheaper...

2. Each agency has ads and promos in different media and different countries. This means there are customers for all of them .

3. My personal opinion is that the most exposure you get, the better. I have several clients who now buy lots custom designs from me. Those client saw my work on low selling sites and contacted me.

4. A low selling site attracts less artists. This means less competition for your images which means more exposure.

Cheers :)

I am on the top 7 (bigstock for me is ahead of 123) plus canstock and crestock.

I joined crestock after reading praise for them from Yuri.  I must admit to being disappointed with sales there, but they are pretty new so there is time for them to pick up.

I have stuck with canstock out of loyalty from the early days when they were the site that paid contributors the highest %.  Duncan's a great guy and I keep hoping they will turn things around.

But honestly,  it worth uploading to the tail end sites?  Probably not.

One thing I can say is based on my experience you definitely don't have to worry about them taking many sales from the more successful sites.  If they were, then they would be successful sites themselves.

Prices are getting higher... but... it would be much better if those sites didn't introduce a new lower priced level....

Most sales that were previously at low resolution are now at lowest resolutions... and the benefit of having a higher priced image doesn't really benefit... imo it evens out... it is just for the sites a new way to attract buyers without having to pay much more to photogs.

I think that despite XS (and I sell a lot at that size), overall $/dld increased lately.
