Title: wow, adobe 4k "same price" as HD? only upload HD to adobe, no 4K
Post by: SuperPhoto on March 17, 2024, 08:51
I know people mentioned the price change @ adobe for 4k video becoming "subscriptions" - adobe making the assets cheap...
Didn't realize they were making the 4k assets "exactly" the same price as the HD assets, thus significantly devaluing contributors works...
https://blog.adobe.com/en/publish/2024/01/24/adobe-stock-now-offers-4kvideo-hd-prices-every-subscription

I guess from now on, will only upload HD video to adobe, because no point in giving them the 4K version...

Wow...

Bonus I guess is it will save me on bandwidth, plus can downsize vids too...

I don't know of any stock site where you can sell 4K only at the price of 4K.
 ;D ;D ;D

Pond5 you can sell at 4k prices vs HD prices... so adobe's "move" significantly devalues sales on other agencies, so may as well remove 4K footage, and also not upload 4K footage there (so it doesn't affect sales on other agencies).

Thing is - 4K footage also requires (generally speaking) extra processing, especially if you do any post processing. If there is no additional benefit to the contributor for doing all that extra work to make great 4K footage, no point in sending it their way...

Pond5 you can sell at 4k prices
This probably only applies to exclusive authors. On Pond5 they buy 4k videos very often at very low prices. There are also subscriptions and discounts for buyers from different countries. Prices are lower for poor countries.

As for 4K processing, the technology is the same as for HD.

Re: 4k processing - I'm talking about things like post processing, artifact removal/etc... It's much more "expensive" to do that on your computer, than simply working with HD footage, in both terms of CPU resources, & time involved... processing HD videos is a LOT faster...

But...  I guess not really any point in uploading new video footage there anyways...

Before - (i.e., 2-3 years ago) - you could get $70 for a clip... for HD/4k... Now... (as a bare minimum it seems) it's about $3, and 'maybe' a little higher if separate/individual packs were purchased... Revenue from clip sales has not gone up 20x to compensate for the difference...

I mentioned this in another thread, but I’ll repeat it.
1. Modern PCs are good at processing both HD and 4K. The authors do not work on old PCs; the equipment must be updated.
2. It is necessary to upload 4K because there may be demand for this format from buyers. And if there is only HD in the portfolio, the author’s income will decrease.

I deleted all my videos on Adobe Stock last year already, but if I still had my videos there, I would definitely delete all 4k videos.  I'm Pond5 Exclusive all in, but recently deleted all my 4k videos on Shutterstock to make limited HD clips available for Shutterstock because you can sell Pond5 Exclusive videos on Shutterstock as well without having to have to remove from Pond5 Exclusive and move to non-exclusive account.

To work with 4K videos, you need a decent laptop. I had to upgrade my laptop as I couldn't edit 4k videos on my old windows laptop. So now I am using a MacBook Pro Max 2 32GB ram 1TB SSD.As I create YouTube videos.

Editing HD videos works fine on my old laptop, but not 4K. Especially if you use high end tech, like GoPros, drones.

If I start doing stock videos now, I would only upload HD h.264 lower quality codec videos to Adobe Stock and Shutterstock.  4K ProRes high quality codec videos to Pond5.  Maybe I won't upload to Adobe Stock at all to get 1.5x royalty on Pond5 Exclusive.  50% extra royalty income on Pond5 can potentially be more than income on Adobe Stock.

32GB ram 1TB SSD.
This is the most common laptop for Windows. Its price is small.
I don’t know what you’re doing there with the video, but to process 30-60 seconds of regular 4K video, 32 GB of RAM is enough. It depends on what you mean by processing.

Does Pond5 still sell anything? Is anyone happy with the income on this stock?  ;D

My old laptop has 8GB Ram, is not old, but can edit HD videos, with 4k videos, no chance. I edit video of 10 minutes or longer for YouTube. I spoke with multiple people, and said that 32GB Ram on MacBook is like 64GB Ram on Windows laptop. Cost me a fortune, but happy with it.

I guess 30-60 seconds any laptop can handle that. But colour grade, using titles and effects, definitely  no.

The other thing is - I actually do have very expensive high end systems - and if you do a lot of 4K video processing - you need to replace the thermal coolant in your system from time to time, which "can" be relatively expensive depending on the system you have.

I edit video of 10 minutes or longer for YouTube.
What does YouTube have to do with it? This forum is about microstocks, and the topic is about 4K video with a duration of 30-60 seconds.

I am saying that you need stronger laptop to edit 4k videos.

I don't need a more powerful PC. I don't do video animation.
